Hey crew,
I enjoy my Galaxie but she's definitely a loud one! Is it possible to run the Galaxie with 6v6 tubes as opposed to 6L6 tubes? Lower wattage might make for earlier breakup and not as loud. Let me know what you all think?

Even if you could do it without changing the guts much, you would get a more useful volume drop from switching to smaller, fewer, less efficient speakers and\or an attenuator IMO. Even 2 x 6v6 amps like the Z-28 are pretty loud.

At one time, Z offered a Master Volume upgrade. I'm not sure if that is offered now. I put a Brake-Lite in my Galaxie and that really tamed the beast.

I would strongly suggest the air brake or one of the brake light variants. I've tried a bunch of high end ones over the years and within 2 seconds, I hate them and return them. Not with the air brake.
Also, they seem like a lot of money for a "volume control", but it really allows you to get the full tone of the amp and then play it at any volume. A master volume on the amp is great and totally useful, but the air brake is even better. And, you can use them on whatever amp you like now or down the line.
I got mine to try with a Splawn amp I hadn't played in 10 years and it brought it bake to life and usefulness. Then started trying it on my other amps and it opened up a whole new range of available tones in them.

Thank you all for the response. I have a AirBrake but one of the pots fell apart. I'll install a new pot and get back to attenuating.
