Hi! My Fuchs Blackjack 21 just died. Swapped in new tubes and can’t figure it Out. I may need to send it to them for repair. It had a nice Blackface voiced clean channel and a very cool drive channel. I really like black face kind of clean… I really want to be able to sound pretty when I need to. Can the Jetta do nice cleans? How much clean her room does it have? I play tele, Strat, Les paul and es335 type guitars for rock and blues also light rock/ classics etc.. I’m thinking the Jetta because of its simplicity, it’s somewhat less expensive.. compact and it has twice the watts and a good MV , effects loop. We have a punchy drummer and we Sometimes crank it… Not metal loud though. So I’m thinking 30 whites might be nice… Nicer than 15 or 18, considering there’s a very good master volume. What do you think? Thank you!

Did the tube swap include the rectifier? Also check fuses if you haven't already. I think Andy's amps are in the same quality camp as Z's so it is almost 90% tube related issues. I had a Lucky 7 a number of years ago - great amp to try out different power and preamp tubes, and built like a tank.

I swapped in new 6v6 (like I did yesterday) and the just now three 12ax7 preamp tubes .. alas it sounds worse than yesterday : like intermittently cutting out and come back in with very low volume and a static-like break up/ distortion sound. I felt like I just needed to turn it off. I’m going to contact Fuchs and see if I can send it to them for repair. I bought it October 15 2016. Can you recommend a dr z that I might love to replace? .. I often play in the clean channel ( I like a sparkly blackface type tone) I often have my rc booster or fulltone fat boost on low to enhance my clean tone. I really don’t often use the drive channels (Fuchs being the sometimes exception), instead stepping on my lil brute drive or ocd or Plimsoul for dirt. I know that 15 watts can be very loud but I’d hate to get swallowed up if Tony starts playing the drum a lot louder or the other players turn up a lot. We play lots of classic rock and soul and some jazzy blues and blues. Your thoughts are welcome sir.

Sometimes an effects loop jack can be wonky. Maybe try an effects cable from the out to the in of the loop.
For sparkly blackface tones from Z, I'd go with an EZG 50. I had one and regret selling it. Some folks like the Z-Lux, but I preferred the EZG. The Cure is cool. I have one and have gigged it, but sometimes it doesn't stay as clean as I like when playing out with the band.
I don't have a Jetta, but think it's more tweed than blackface. Others who know more about the amp can advise on that though.

I emailed you a document that I put together that gives a description of almost all Z amps (newest ones excluded) that include descriptions and representative sound clips. Hopefully this will help you in your quest for a new Z if you choose to go in that direction.

Andy will take care of you - he and Annette are top-drawer folks (kinda like another small manufacturer we're all familiar with).

Annette is no longer with them but there customer service department got back with me and is trying to find me someone local that they can work with to fix it. Meanwhile I think I’m gonna go with Sam of SamAmp. I have a Samamp VAC 40 2 , 2 x10, power switching, 2channel amp of his. I bought it used and it is, along with my Dr Z Remedy, best sounding amp I’ve ever heard! Everybody in the new band loves the way it sounds and Sam has one of his new designs, 2X 10 VSC 30. Single channel. Variable power scaling from 1 to 30 W. Sam spent a lot of time with me on the phone troubleshooting the used 40 W amp I bought about six months ago. It was only a burned out tube but she walked me through troubleshooting and using a voltmeter to make sure that the voltage was Right.. etc. he is just the best customer service I’ve ever had! He’s one guy… Makes the best sounding amps I’ve ever had (dr Z also) and he’s just so generous with his time and availability. Warranty for life, through him! There’s a lot of sweetness in that :-) docs people are great too!

Too bad - Annette was super-nice to my kids when we went to the shop once to pick up my MM Mod. Free T shirts all around! What I love about Fuchs is that his motto is "we don't build orphans" - customer service is top notch.
