my first post here was about the monza...made it after using it in the first rehearsal for this allman brothers tribute thing im in. that rehearsal was so easy because all i had to do was essentially plug in and i was right where it needed to be. over the course of the weeks tho, i *had* to tinker...trying out my carmen ghia with various pedals, swapping my PRS DGT and 335, tweaking quicksand, etc...but brought the monza last night with the DGT, set volume/drive/tone to noon (billy in a box settings), had the master around 9:00, and from there it's all the guitar's volume and tone knobs.
the way the rehearsal room is set up, the speaker was aimed directly at the keyboardist's face and the bassist was in the danger zone too (the monza can pack a mega punch if youre not familiar)...was asking them all night to make sure volume was tolerable and they were all good the whole night, not a single complaint about loudness...this amp sits in the mix so well, it's really hard to describe, but such a comfortable feeling knowing you're not hammering everyone's eardrums when you dig in.
i cant say enough good things about this amp. ive spent time on almost everything...vintage tweeds/bf's, 60's vox's, plexis, z's, two rocks, komet, victoria, etc etc...but i cant recall playing an amp that was this responsive to the guitar's tone knob before. as much as riding the volume knob, riding the tone knob radically changes how the amp feels and performs. it's incredible to have that much flexibility at your fingertips and never have to touch a pedal.
PS...given the above, i probably should've used my DGT, but i restrung it earlier this morning, and it likely wouldn't have held tune. truthfully tho...335, DGT...this amp loves them both equally.
