Took a chance on a Craigslist ad. Drove all day to North Carolina and scored the best amp I’ve ever heard in my life. I’ve played and owned a lot of amps, including famous vintage amps and boutique ones, and honestly, after a month of playing it, it is by far the best out of all of them. The guy was super nice and honest. He recently replaced all the tubes and had it looked over by a reputable tech to get it in tip top shape. There was even a Brake Lite installed. The Celestion Gold is perfectly broken in. Sounds unbelievably good on both my LP and Tele. I’ve never heard cleans and on the edge of breakup like this sound this good before. I’m new to Dr Z amps. Only played a Maz before but this one has changed my life Worth every penny of the $1400. The amp is called a Stang Ray

The Stangray was designed to replace Brad Paisley's vintage non-top boost AC30 on tour. So, what you have there is a world-class AC30 with a Z twist.

Congratulations. If I were ever to own another el-84 amp, it would be the Ray. The best non-Fender style cleans of any amp I ever owned. Played it through a 1x12 Gold cab with a Z-Verb.

Thanks guys. I’m definitely in love with this amp. Love the simplicity of the design yet the depth of the tone I can get from the tone and cut knobs. Before noon on the tone knob is more mids while after noon is more scooped. More cut gives me a lot more chime to the sound.

$1400? You stole that amp! Yeah – I agree the Ray is one of the best sounding amps ever. I’ve had mine for a long time now and it’s never going anywhere. If you haven’t yet, take that volume up to around 1 o’clock or 2 o’clock and really get that sucker cooking. You’ll notice as you increase the volume you will start to decrease the chime. But don’t worry, you can dial it right back in with the cut knob! I have 2 amps that I will hang onto forever - the Stingray and the Orange RV 50. You made an excellent choice, and welcome to the forum!

Wow, your story is similar to mine. I too, took a Craigslist trip to try out my first Z, a couple of days ago. I have a few great amps, but had never played through a Z. Actually had never even heard one live, only in videos. I also downright stole it. It is a Z-28 2x10 combo with an additional 2x10 extension cab. I’m enjoying every minute of it. Not sure about my neighbors though.
