Got the shipment details today!! Maz Jr left Fat Sound yesterday afternoon Canada bound. Funny thing though, it left NC at 5:00 am this morning and it arrived at SC at 9:30; its still there in fact. I'm hoping UPS has maps, because its looking to me like my little ole amp is heading for the wrong border. Who knows by weeks end, some Brazilian might be doing Zee lambada with a killer little red amp! he'd probably be having the time of his life, but it would be wrong, not to mention sweaty. Spidy senses are tingling. Oh should have asked this long ago, but here goes. Is the Maz Jr a good rhythm amp? I'm afraid in the language of lead guitar, I'm barely able to order a coffee. Present situation takin into account, somebody please say yes ;D Bill

Congratulations Bill. ;D It's a great amp all 'round. Very versatile. Takes a while to break in though and responds well to different tubes. I put 3 Svetlana 12AX7s in mine which made the amp even sweeter. There's a great wealth of info here for new users; different settings to try, tube trials et al. I got mine from Fatsound too. I was very impatient waiting for arrival, watching the tracking route hourly I think. This amp is no one trick pony. I would reccommend an attenuator of some sort because you'll want to crank it some. The airbrake I hear is very good. I ordered a Weber mini mass after the neighbours complained at 1:30 one morning (only $75 U.S.); gives me a good sound for recording at moderate volume. I think Jayson Chance has one too. Here's a pic of mine the day it arrived: I almost got a red one. I had a red Marshall back in 1969 but I always liked blondes (also had a blonde bassman head back in the day). Oh, and Pepper Tree's drummer was Timmy Garrigan; great singer too if that's the guy, sounds a bit like Burton Cummings. Used to know him years ago. Yes I got your PM and sent one back.

Thanks for all the encouraging replies and advice. Hope your responses were not positive because i was leading you that way. You really don't need to answer that, ehem... I will definitely be considering some sort of attenuation in the very near future. Good advice Gary. My old neighbor didn't mind me creating a racket, in fact seemed to enjoy it, but the new neighbors a different story. In the first week after moving in she asked me "are you playing a guitar over there" inside voice.....don't start complaining already, outside voice......- aaahhh yes... was it a little loud? I'll initially spend some time with it as is and later try some tube variations for a more customized sound. Received your PM and replied Gary. Killer blond by the way. Hopefully it was in good condition when it finally caught up with you? Such a long trip from Z Land via Fat Sound via SC and God knows were else it has to come from!

You're going to be amazed for months to come by how versatile the mighty Maz Jr. can be. If someone would have told me that I would have been able to pull off tones from Cray to Vaughan to Satch with a single channel 18watt el84 amp even a year ago, I would have told them they were nuts!! This amp still amazes me, especially now that I have the 'Ray to compare it to. A little off track, but I'm finding that the great thing about Z's amps is that each one gives you a new insight into the other. For me, owning the Maz 38, Maz 18 and Stingray has enabled me to appreciate the Doc's masterful design far better than if I was limited to just one model. They all share something magically similar, that Z sparkle I guess, but just being able to experience different takes on the Doc's genius just makes for such a rewarding journey in tone. I'm an obsessive and restless guitar player with some serious G.A.S., but I find some strange comfort in knowing that I'll never have to buy another amp that isn't a Dr. Z amp. -Greg

My spidy senses were on target. Little Maz spent over a day bouncing back and forth from North to South Carolina. At 5:00 o'clock it was right back from where it started yeaterday. Oh well, its finally heading north now. I swear there must be a lot of retired Naval Navigators driving for UPS. I've never seen the navy go any where in a straight line. Something to do ...something to do. I'm going out for some supper, cheers. ;D

Awesome! I ordered a blonde NR 2x10 this afternoon. It's definitely going to be a long 3 weeks. A funny thing happened after I placed the order....no buyers remorse! After trying a couple Z's and reading this forum (every day!), I know I made the right decision. It's some serious money, but well worth it. I can't wait!

Congrats on making the big step Shortyz. I know what you mean about forking out the dough; but the way i looked at it is, a cheaper amp would have cost more in the end. As conservative as i am at times, this time i bought what i wanted instead of limiting myself to some short sighted self imposed price range. I've done that far too many times only to cast it away for something a really wanted. We all have to live within our means and sometime buying quality up front helps us to do this. Plus you get to own a Z man!! COOL ;D
Greg, I can't wait to find out for myself man. From all the sound clips I've heard, what you say about how mighty and versatile the Maz is, is completely accurate. Your Sporadic Bliss sound clip just blew me away. Such a huge, complex sound coming from and 18 watter was an eye opener. Love to hear the B side, perhaps with some S.t.i.n.g to to it! That would be farm out brotha ;D

Bill, good luck with the anxiety of waiting for your new Maz 18. I just paid for my new Maz 18 today, I got a black 1x12/reverb model. I was able to test drive it for over a week and took it to band practice as well. This amp is awesome! Luckily Long & McQuade Music had one in stock here in Victoria.

Thanks Stratman89 (not agent 89?). Man what a luxury; to actually be able to try out a Z prior to committing, sweet. The closest dealer to me is about a 14 hour drive (1 way) and although Ive thought about it, that trip's just crazy. I was in Victoria last month and called Long & MaQuade but they didn't have a single Z in stock at that time. Sounds like you had better luck though. Life is all about about timing i guess.

Don't often get home for lunch but it happened today. As it turns out, i must have just missed UPS. There was a "we were here" sticker on the door. I've arranged pickup for this evening. Not taking any chances on another delivery attempt, I'll pick it up myself.

Those stickers are the worst; I actually had my Maz Jr. shipped to my office because I didn't want to chance missing UPS any more days than I had to.

No, I'm actually from the Happy Valley otherwise known as State College, PA...home of Penn State University and this year's Big 10 & Orange Bowl champs. Sorry, it's that Nittany Lion pride coming out, anytime someone asks. People's blood here really does run blue & white.
I've always wanted to get up to the Novia Scotia area to do some backpacking. Hopefully someday soon.

Its safe and sound, but best of all its here at last. I can't believe that this thing has bounced around from truck to truck, state to state and country to country and its in pristine condition!!! YES. My worst fears are unfounded.
Haven't had much a chance to try her out. Have my daughter this week, but Friday she back with her mom and I'll be doing some serious noodling. I am extremely impressed, to say the least, with this amp. The Dr should be extremely proud of his creation, i know I'm proud to own it. First off, it looks absolutely beautiful with exceptional craftsmanship and styling. I just had to look at it for several minutes before i could bring myself to plug it in. Upon uncoiling the power cord (i know this sounds silly but) i had stop to feel the quality of it, amazing and twice the length of my other amp. Yes indeed, size matters gentleman.
Plugged the tele in and gave her a whirl and man, everything I've heard, all the gushing, all the raving, its totally honest. Amazingly huge, clear, open and articulate in both single and double coil mods. Its all that and more. Hitting that open e string is like nothing I've experienced before. Huge sound that fills every crevice of the room. My C30 sounds tiny next to it. Stu at Fat Sound was accurate "you will experience a huge tonal improvement going to a Maz Jr". Love those barred 7th minor cords, simply beautiful and clear.
I'm gushing i know, but for me, todays X-mas and I'm 9 years old again. Peace
Oh incidentally, this is by 50 post and as such, Ive become a junior member; on the day i received my first Z, a "Junior". Some strange stuff happening right here brothas. The Big Z sees and knows all. ;D

I'm happy to hear how much you like it! You can't gush too much for any of us. Isn't it funny how these amps do this for us!? As crazy as I am about my old tweed Fenders, I can't imagine a forum for them like we have for Zs!

Seaking, Now that you have received your amp, you are in an enviable position. After looking at a few other options and getting some guidance form those on this post, I decided to pull the trigger on a Maz 18jr 1x12 NR today. Now I have to wait... Until then I will live vicariously through you. Cheers, Newbie

RC,
Thanks.
Looks like the wait will be 2-3 months. I got it from Willcutt, those guys seem to be really good.
Thanks,
Newbie

Congrats Newbie. I'm sure it will be a bit of a wait, but you're gonna be one happy camper when it gets in. I know i was and still am in fact. The first thought when i got up this morning was of my new Maz sitting in the rec room...er...well... or maybe it was god. i have to get up already %%? I''m not too clear headed first thing, it could of played out either way. Luckily, I'm out of the office this week and working not far from home, so i get to play during the lunch hours. Can get as loud i want, sweet. I don't now what your gear history is, but for me this amp was a giant step forward in my quest for tone. Everything from its construction to its amazingly rich sounds was just soo.... much better. I was surprised today by comparing the blue marvel to the Celestion 30. The Celestion looks like its on steroids, i guess that's part of the improvement explanation. Anyway man, good luck.
