Hey guys
First post here but man I love these amps. I've had a ZBest 212 for years paired with my komet concorde build a friend of mine did for me and its been my favorite cab I've ever used. Anyway I recently picked up a ZWreckJr combo from an online dealer.
When I first turned the amp on I wasn't getting any sound (strummed a few times at varying volume levels to confirm and tried diming the volume too once or twice before shutting it off)
I did have to partially re-seat one of the power tubes when I first unpacked it, so after shutting it down the first time I fully removed that tube to check it. All looked fine so I plugged it back in and repeated a few strums at varying levels to double check. Then I tried turning the volume all the way up and put my ear to the speaker to see if I could hear any hum/etc at all coming from the amp.
At this point I removed the preamp tube covers and immediately saw that the middle tube was damaged and had cracks running through it, must have broken somehow during shipping - my fault for not checking that first.
I replaced with a tung sol 12ax7 from my concorde, and the amp powered up and sounds great.
Just want to confirm with the experts here that my amp is fine and I didn't do any potential damage and/or limit the lifespan of any components?
It's also a wicked pita trying to line up the tubes in the combo, I actually removed the bottom baffle panel and was able to get in there a little easier, I was worried I'd have to pull the chassis and initially regretted not getting the head version. But damn the combo is sexy.
Thanks!
