In another thread Mike (jaguarguy) mentioned how great the EZG sounds with a 15" speaker. Back in the '70s I had a cab that I had built that was loaded with an Altec Lansing 418b speaker which I had bought from a friend. He had pulled it from an Acoustic Control Corp. amp and I loved that speaker. The old Altecs are so musical. Fast forward to last weekend and I went looking for one. Found a very clean all original one and picked it up for $150. It came in today and I cut a 3/4" baffle to fit my 1x12 Z cab, and loaded it up. Wow.
Long story short, that 15" Altec in Doc's cab is incredible. I've got the center panel out and it's huge sounding without being beamy or sharp. The treble is sweet and it's got good midrange with tight bass. I also tried it with my Maz 18NR VII and it's very good with that amp too. Before I sold it, I had run that old Altec with my Super Reverb and it sounded great, so it makes sense that it's working so well with the EZG.
Thanks Mike!
EDIT: Just plugged in my Carmen Ghia. EEEGADS, brother! I'm in love with this speaker. And I just tried it with the CAZ-45. Unworldly.
One thing that I noticed right away is that it's not very efficient, which isn't what I remembered. It may be that the AlNico magnet has gotted degaussed in the 45 years since it was made...it measures about 3dB quieter than a G12H30 does. I hope that it's not on the verge of dying, is sounds terrific.

I love Altecs. I always preferred them over JBLs. I have a couple of 417s. I recently sold an amp with a 418 that had a LARGE patch repair on the cone. It still sounded great. Ted Weber used to re-magnetize speakers as part of his reconing service. I don't know if Weber Speakers still does that but you might want to inquire about it.
If I recall correctly Altecs had 3" voice coils and JBLs were 4". As you say they were more musical for electric guitar whereas the JBLs leaned more toward being hi-fi.
