Fedex was kind today, the second box arrived without any issues. So without further ado, after a long year in the making, the Joe Walsh SRZ65 is healthy again and back home. After the discussion about this amp in December of 2019, I waited and waited for either Mike to take another stab at it or somebody other than me buy it. I finally turned to the wife and said, I need the money. I think she was tired of me stewing over it and relinquished the funds. It arrived later in January of 2020 and in non working order. Musicgorounds Manager did not want me to return it, since he was upside-down on it already. So he offered to pay for the repairs, I took it to the best guy I know locally and said, "Just make it work, but don't touch anything else". I know that it needed other things by looking at the chassis and he agreed, it needed to be gone through. I know he had never heard one, or played one so there was only one thing to do. Send it home to Dr. Z and let them go through the amp. I reached out, then Covid Hit, and I decided to wait it out, then I lost my job, then my wife lost her job. Finally everyone got back to work and I reached out again and got the ball rolling. I gave them free rein, what ever it needed do it, let's get it back in respectable shape. Off it went and last week I got the notification from Don that the amp was done and that Doc did the work himself. I was stunned when I first heard it, it was not the same amp I sent, it sounded so much better, all the controls functioned, I didn't have to use weird eq settings, it wasn't brittle. The amp went from something that was going to sit in a corner as a conversation piece to something I will use. Now the cab, some of you may have seen this one on TGP, but the guy didn't want to ship. I said to myself, there is no way i'm going to find another one, or at that price. So I purchased it from him and tried to figure out shipping. He mentioned that he bought a new cabinet from Stoneage Cabs and I said great, just hold it until your new cab comes in and then ship me the cab in the new box. 7 weeks later due to shipping delays from Stoneage (at no fault to them) the cabinet arrived here today. They look like they were made for each other, the speakers date to 1994 so they are both close in age unless someone chimes in to tell me otherwise. The mahogany valances are the same color and match perfectly.

Congrats! That is beautiful! You had it brought back from the garbage heap! I'd like to hear what Doc did to it.

It's unfortunate that I can only hit the "like" button once. This is too cool.

Congrats! That is beautiful! You had it brought back from the garbage heap! I'd like to hear what Doc did to it. In my 55 years working on tube amps I have never done so much to repair one amp. Normally I would have said forget it this amp way to damaged and needs way too much work. But since it had the Joe Walsh connection, (see video from the Eagles HOF induction, only the knobs were changed ) I felt compelled to try my best. Well it was a complete rebuild , the chassis was bent so bad I had to completely disassemble the amp to straighten it . Once I started to re-assemble I completely removed all the excess solder from the various repair attempts from years past, remember this is a 25 year old amp. I got it working and then attempted to get the best sound out it I could. It did sound very good when I finished and I'm glad dubs digs it and appreciates how I brought this classic amp back from the dead. Z

It deserves its place in R'nR History even if I didn't end up with it!

Z This amp now deserves "Z-Talk Hall of Fame" status, in my opinion. Consider this my official nomination. Granted, there are others that should be alongside it in said HoF--I've been lucky to see/touch/play maybe some of them in Jaguarguy (Mike)'s muZeum--but this story/chain of events is just too good.

I have been playing it all morning (Thank goodness I have an Brake Lite), it is big, bold and beautiful sounding. My semi hollow and a little boost just sings through this amp. And like I passed along to Don, this amp went from a conversation piece to something that will continue to get used and loved for years to come. I still can't believe I found a matching cabinet! LOL

The Phoenix amp, brought back by the Dr himself. Very cool indeed 😀 Phoenix indeed. Talk about a two story amp! First owned by JW and used for an iconic tour, then 25 years later it gets hand rebuilt by the Doc. I’m not real sure how it gets any more special than that!

I agree, it was amazing that the cab came up and the guy was willing to work with me on getting it here. The cab has for capped holes in the top and can be used as a combo shell.

Where did you find the First one? The shot I found was from down low and could only see the Z on the cabinet.
Second, the HOF gig still baffles me a little. What was the other Z Joe used during the HFO tour?
Third, the picture that doc flys in on the JW AMA tells me that the SRZ and the other amp swapped headshells or faces at some point.

The first was from HFO tour - not sure which city. I seem to recall Doc saying that Joe switched the knobs on the amp at some point (correct me if I'm wrong Doc).
