So our friend Todd at PCNS has been making the best guitar/instrument cables, speaker cables, snakes, etc. for years. Great quality and first rate customer service.
Lately, a few months back, Todd bought himself a pickup winding machine and he and his son Josh started winding pickups. We were talking and he asked if I wanted to try some out and being the endless tone junky that I am I said "Sure!"
Together in the middle switch position they have a sweet chime that is really nice. Great job, guys. I think you've got a winner here!
I just wanted to give my thoughts on these latest offerings from PCNS. I don't know where they are on production but like I said, I think they've got a winner here!

They sent me a set of humbuckers that are way better than I expected. I should have known better, 'cause Todd and Patty don't release junk. They are a little hotter than a PAF would be, to my ear, and sound GREAT. The bridge sounds fat and in your face (in a good way) without a bit of trebly bite. Overdriven they hang together and come on strong.
But what really took me by surprise was the way the Neck pickup sounds. It's one of the rare neck position humbuckers that don't get muddy, even driven hard. Nearly every neck 'bucker I've experienced gets muddy and I need to EQ the amp to the trebly side to use it, many times cutting the bridge tone control back to 6 or 7 to compensate and balance the tone. I really dig the neck pup.Together in the middle switch position they have a sweet chime that is really nice. Great job, guys. I think you've got a winner here!
I was reluctant to put them into a high dollar Les Paul so I mounted them into a Harley Benton SC-550 Deluxe LP knockoff that is a great playing guitar. I had redone the electronics with a custom built control harness I made and some used Gibson '57 Classics that I got on the BST page here on Z-Talk. It's a great little guitar, astonishing really considering that it was so cheap. But I got a good one. Todd and Josh's pickups took it up a notch.
I don't know if I'm gonna let him have 'em back...and might even have him wind me another identical set for my '03 Les Paul Std.
