I saw that this morning. For one thing, the description does a very poor job of stating what the mod does. I'm exaggerating, but to me, it came off as: Dude! this thing really ROCKS! You turn it up and...uh....it ROCKS!
It's probably some sort of little preamp to boost the signal. Sort of like putting an OD pedal inside the amp.
As far as purchasing....I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Could have altered the circuitry to install that preamp. Preamp could be damaging to the rest of the amp....and on, and on.

I'd give him $800 for it and send it back to Doc to be made right again. Why do that to such a great amp. If he wants a high gain amp, go buy one, but to butcher up a good Dr. Z amp, BLASPHEMY!!! I don't know why anyone would think they need more gain. There are so many good pedals you'd think that would make more sense to anybody.
