Advice? Direction? Somewhere on the forum I believe I read where someone recommended good replacement EL 84s and where to order them, but I can't find that thread. I do have a pair of original and old RCA's but I don't want to burn them up if I can save them. They don't sound much better than what came in the Jr new, actually, FWIW. Thanks.

Hi Robt, a matched set of the GT EL-84-S at a #5 or #6 rating are great tubes for the MAZ18Jr. You can also talk to Myles or Mike at KCA tubes if you want to go the NOS route. They both have their own threads in the 'Ask the Experts' section on this forum. There are some excellent NOS preamp tubes available if you really want to experiment as well. You can order the GT's right from their website. You can also check out KCA tubes here: www.kcanostubes.com/content/

Thanks, just what i needed. I have used some NOS tubes over the years in different amps, with very mixed results. I'll go with the GTs. Myles is affiliated with them, right? Thanks again.

Myles does work for them. Though sometimes I think GT works for Myles. He's an awesome guy. Contact him if you have any questions that are amp related he won't steer you wrong.

Update: I talked to Mike at KCA tubes and he recommended JJ's, which I ordered. They sound great to my ear, slightly different from the stock tubes, softer, with that nice EL84 sponginess. Great tubes and great service. Glad I did it.

FYI the GT EL84S is a JJ EL84. The "S" is for Slovakia.
