I've had my Cure for a little over a month and am still amazed at the versatility of the amp. I think I've got it dialed in pretty well with my Teles and Strats. I know it's a sickness, but cruising the Z amp store, I was intrigued by the Jetta. This one seems to be able to complement my Cure perfectly. Plus, talk about ultra-simple controls, can't get much easier than volume, tone and master. So after debating with myself for a couple of days, I pulled the trigger and ordered one online, something I probably wouldn't normally do, but considering our world situation, the reputation of the shop where I purchased it, quality of the product itself, and the seemingly scarcity of the model, I ordered one. After playing it most of the day, and switching back and forth between it and my Cure, here's my two cents worth of the similarities and differences of the two amps.....
I'm almost positive the cabinets for both are exactly the same, grill cloth and logo are the same, tolex covering is the same, weight is nearly identical. Probably missing something, but, to me, these are the most obvious similarities. Obvious differences are: speaker brand, power tubes, controls, more eq control on the Cure, no Level on Jetta. Sound is where the huge difference is to me. The Cure is very Fenderish, a good thing for me. Plenty of volume and exactly the tone I look for in an amp. The Jetta is a whole different animal, tone-wise. The best word I can use for the tone of the Jetta is...BALLS. The Cure is refined and great-sounding; can get nasty and loud if need be. The Jetta just loves to be played loud. Stays clean for a long, long time, crank the volume, back off the master and it gets over the top. This isn't to say the Jetta can't be played at lower levels, it just seems to me to like being cranked.
If you've read this far, thanks, but I do have a question about the Jetta. There is a noticeable hiss from the amp, that I also can hear but at a much lower level in the Cure. I can't hear it when I'm playing, so it's not that loud, but it's there. My guess is that it's a master volume thing that all amps with a master have some inherent hiss. And I'm probably noticing it more since I've played Fenders almost exclusively the last 40 years. Just throwing the question out there to make sure the hiss I'm hearing is "normal".
Thanks for any input.
