Does anyone have one of the Doc's 2x12 combo amps or 2x12 open back cabs that they can place on top of a Backline cab? I'm entertaining the idea of getting a Backline 2x12 to put under my Maz 38 2x12 combo, but not sure if this would look silly or if it would even be safe. The combo and open back 2x12 are 27.5" wide and the Backline cab is 24" wide. So really the overhang would only be 1.75" on either side, but I'm really curious what this would look like or if it would even be safe to do. What do you think? Anyone have a pic?

daveyk I'm pretty sure Doc's "backline" 2x12 cab is a narrower one similar in overall dimensions as his 4x10. It'll be narrower (and taller) than your 2x12 cab, as you've mentioned. What you need is the regular (not called "backline") 2x12 cab, which should be pretty much exactly the same size as your 2x12 combo amp, and perfectly fine to stack together. That would be an awesome stack.

I would think that a 1.75" overhang on each side would not allow the amp feet to rest fully on the cab and might not be secure \ stable. A piece of 1\4 inch plywood the same size as the amp between the two would do the trick though.

I believe it is open back. That's what is pushing me for the Backline since you can run it as an open back or closed back.

Only if the regular 2x12 extension cab were a convertible cab, i'd opt for it.

In this case, you may want to contact the Mather Cabinet company--I've ordered custom Mather cabs before (he's truly one of the best in the business) and they're GREAT, and they also happen to match perfectly as long as you describe to him what you need. (Specify "Dr Z type tolex and grillcloth," etc.) Granted, it won't have the "Z" logo on it, but it could otherwise be exactly what you need. And while his quality is top-notch, his prices are average.
