Well, I happen to be at the right place at the right time last week. GC had a Z Best for $435 marked as "Good" Condition. I called, they hadn't put it on the floor yet and the sale rep went and took a look. Well its in very good shape, one little snag on the bottom and it came with a cover. SOLD! LOL Now I just gotta get a Z Verb asap!

Z Best or the Z Beast has arrived. First Run though was complex. So much of a balanced and detailed tone, and all my gain seemed to disappear. No matter how much I dialed it up that cabinet stayed really clear. One speaker stopped working after some riffing so I had to open it up. Sure enough it was just a loose wire, but while I had the back off I pulled the speakers and tried my CV65/Red Fan Alnico combination. Darker, still detailed, sounded like the DB's came down a little. For me it was more usable, and sounded great with the Ghia.
I have had plenty of 2x12's in my day and by far this one is the most unique. I usually find the too tubby in the low end and a little brash in the high end. Not this cabinet, it tight and sounds great. I'm still not completely sold yet, but i'll give it some more time and play around with it a bit more tomorrow.

Did it have the stock V30 - G12H30 speakers?

Did it have the stock V30 - G12H30 speakers? Yes, with the V30 and the G12H30 WOW did it ever have a huge sound. Large enough that I would not be able to use it even with the Brake Lite. The 3D Detail is unreal, it really is like its own instrument. Doc really does know his speakers and cabinets. With the CV65 and the Red Fang and a Z28 in front of it, its darker, but still articulate. I put my board in front of it and hit the Z with a Vanilla Zendrive (brighter more open Zen) and it Dumbled Perfectly. Big fat single notes with great string separation in full chords. I used a lot of Dumble type amps before coming back to Z Land.

I compared this morning to the 2 small cabs that I have and I prefer the smaller cabs. To my ears the mix of 10s/12 and the smaller cabs yielded a quicker and tighter bass response. A little less definition in chords, but I can live with that. I think i'm pretty happen with what I have. I just really really needed to try a 2x12 since I have speakers sitting here not getting used. I think I would rather in the end invest that money into a Z Amp Combo for small tight gigs and rehearsal. I really see a M12 in my future.
