So, many years ago I had a Maz 18 as my "gigging" amp. I sold it 'cause although it was a good pedal platform, I found it's overall tone a bit "sterile" (just my opinion). Now, after having been through several amps since then, I'm considering the Z Wreck Jr. .The demos I've heard sound great, but I've been unable to find one to demo. I understand that the Jr. is geared toward those who plug straight in and ride their guitars volume to go from mean to clean, but with covers, versatility is important, & I'm wondering how it takes dirt pedals as well as modulation? We play everything from '90's hard rock to swing, to country. Any informed opinions are welcome!

I’ve had mine since late February. I’ve mostly run it straight in. But, recently I’ve needed some more versatility. I’m still using the gain on the Jr, but have added an analog delay, chorus, a klon clone, and a wah. I still turn down the guitar volume to get clean sounds.
I think it takes a chorus pretty well. There was a clean part to a song I was playing and once I added the chorus effect, it really brought the part out. I have the delay set pretty low and it gets a little out of hand when I boost the Jr with the klon clone, but it’s not too bad.

I love my Z Wreck Jr. I use it in a Skynyrd tribute band and a country band. I have the Wampler "Hot Wired" pedal if I need a boost and it does the job for me.

Thank you for your replies. In short, can I gig with the Jr by setting the gain very high & volume slightly less so , and use the guitar volume to go from crunchy rhythm to searing leads? Does it compress a bit with the gain maxed where I can get something like a Warren Haynes lead tone? (no, I can't afford a Soldano:))

I used the volume control for cleaner tones and if I needed a little more"dirt" I turned up my guitar. The amp compresses very nice with the volume up and turning the master down. It is plenty loud, don't think Fender Blues Jr. volume. The Z wreck Jr. can get loud!!

i am really enjoying this little amp mines a combo its light easy to carry love the clean sound with a little hair.dig in and its sounds good all by its self i bought a wampler paisley deluxe pedal with the amp thinking i would need it.but this amp sounds really good all by itself.i mic my amp we play through a bose l1 model 2 with two b2 subs. so i found if i use the reverb, delay and chorus through the tone match on the bose i get a cleaner effects plus its like stereo dry sound coming from the amp and effects out of the bose. great amp sounds better when played in a band it cuts through amazingly
