My Tim pedal went on the fritz a few weeks ago. I thought it was probably the footswitch but it was not. I don't use the Boost function and I have been wanting to downsize anyway so I decided to get a Timmy. Might as well be a V3. Well, I could not find any in stock except a few on Reverb/Ebay at grossly inflated prices. Even Humbucker Music could not tell me when they would have them. I finally found one at Mass Street Music in Lawrence, Kansas at the normal price. I ordered mine today. I think they still have some in stock. Just a heads up for anyone looking.

My V1 Tim pedal had the push-pull pot fail on the back of the pedal a few years ago. I called Paul re getting it replaced and he said he didn't think he had them anymore. While I was on the phone he rummaged through a box of parts and discovered he had 1 left. I sent my Tim to him and had it back in a week and a half back to normal. Currently I think the switch on my V1 Timmy is failing - time to contact him again - excellent customer service and great guy to chat with.

I looked at the asking prices on reverb and considered selling mine. Then Again, asking isn’t always getting. I didn’t bother to look at recent selling prices, because honestly, I’m set and don’t need one; and I’m not really selling mine anytime soon.

Is the MXR small-case version really that different-sounding? It's widely available (and yes I have one and it's great)...

I too will be interested in any difference. I originally ordered the MXR version because I could not find the real Timmy, at least at a price I was willing to pay. I suspect the MXR will wind up on my back-up/rehearsal board. Here is something interesting. Until the Cochrane versions get here I am using a Cool Cat CTO-1 as my transparent OD and it is doing a pretty good job. This is the version that was a rip-off of the Timmy and Danelectro eventually changed to the Version 2. I got it free so I don't feel too bad about it. They did not get any money from me and after all, I have now paid for a Tim, Timmy and the MXR so I feel I have supported Paul's product. Anyway I will A/B the two versions when I get them.

The mxr is very close to v2 pedal...obviously a complete different pedal/overhall but gets you close, tad brighter but that's controllable...I did have v3 as well and should dug in a little more.. but having a # of v2's its the pedal for me.
I will add that anything paul puts his name on..."timmy" is going to have his blessing...mxr is worth the $.

Well I have them both. The Cochrane Timmy V3 sounds excatly like the Tim it replaces. Settings are the same except for the reversed Bass and Treble controls. Gain switch on Low. I don't like the High gain side at all. That is not what I use the pedal for anyway. It is great to have it back on the board. Now about the MXR Timmy. I finally got it sounding almost like the V3. As has been noted it is a little brighter but that can be dialed out. The taper on the Volume control is very sensitive though. It makes setting a level hard. I'll keep it for my 2nd board as intended. If it was to go on my primary board I would probably send it back.
