I should start with an apology, as I am sure this question has been asked and answered many times. Is there a differnce between an Ecc83 and a 12ax7 tube? I have heard they are interchangeable but I ask because in looking at the list of tubes for my Maz 18 on the website it shows the Ecc83 in some positions but in others it says Ecc83/12ax7. So, is there a difference? Also, some manufacturers have an Ecc83S, or Ecc83B. Are there real differences between those? Thanks in advance for the info, and long live DR. Z amps

No difference. ECC83 is simply the European designation and US’s is 12AX7. Same tube though.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the world of tubes! Here is a link for a tube supplier, of which there are a small number of great ones, but by looking at the listings of power amp or preamp tubes you can see the different names and variations that are associated with them as a reference. It can be a long dark rabbit hole if you allow it, but there is never a dumb question when it comes to retubing your amp (and that includes the rectifier). Enjoy the journey! www.kcanostubes.com/
