Over the years, I've tried everything I could to get close to Paisley's tone.... RxES, Ray, Z-Wreck, and now the DB4. Not that I want to sound exactly like him, I just REALLY like his tone (the less driven tones are my favorite). For the most part, I got there with all these amps.....BUT, the DB4 is "Brad in a Box", well.....in a speaker cab! There's a few songs I need a little more top end or less mids, but for the most part - I can pretty much nail his tones form the first album up through his new stuff with the DB4 and a Tele....Maybe my Paisley Deluxe and compressor on some songs. Those aren't the only tones in there, plenty of other great tones.....but I found Brad, because that's what I was looking for Plus, it helps that Brad helped design it and uses it.

I found this to be true with the Wreck all day long. Set that thing right, plug your Tele in and play some BP songs and it gets you there. I can get those tones out of the DB4 too. But play those two amps in stereo and man...you're all the way there!

I've got the "blues breaker" combo with 2 blues - sure is sweet with a ton of tones in there!

I have DB4 S/N #3...and it rocks! Did you buy that new? I *think* I owned that very same amp, back in June of 2016?? I found the pics I took of it right after I unboxed it.... I zoomed in on the SN, and it looks like it is? But, it's a little dark and starting to get grainy. I got it used, and don't even think the speaker got broken in by the previous owner, or myself. I wish I'd gaven it more of a chance.....But then again, you wouldn't have it (EDIT)I found my very first DB4, it was #3

People ask me , " Is Matchless or Carr your biggest competition ". No my biggest competition is the used Z Market.
FWI I did just send the DB 4 2X12 Bluesbraker Red combo amp to Brad for him to play, sign , and auction with all the proceeds going to his Nashville Food Bank. The DB 4 is truly an aMAZing sounding amp, it is a shame it didn't become more well known. Well, the sale should fill a few shelfs with good food for the needy. Just a heads up.

Well, red is good and all, but I was feelin' a little silverish tonight That is such a nice color scheme. I bet that sounds great! It does. I actually think it sounds different than most DB4s you hear online. It certainly sounds slightly different than the big boy Bluesbreaker combo as that one has the two Blues. It sounds similar to the 112 combo with the Gold, however, I find the Z-Wreck cab with the Blue/Gold gives the amp a slightly punchier response. I think its the Z-Wreck cab. What will be interesting down the road (once I take Doc up on his offer to build the custom Wreck Jr) is what the DB4 will sound like into the same cab with 2 Greenbacks Edit-I just noticed the pilot light looks blue but it is actually a glorious green.

Z Now, I've never played a Matchless, but... Doc, you & Steve both build some of the highest-quality stuff, period. Luckily I think Z & Carr can exist & flourish on the market because their innate tonal-centers are just so different. (Or, should I say, complimentary?) As for the DB4, well that's one helluva amp. It's up there in my book with the original Rx as mind-blowingly awesome rip-roarin' rock & roll tones. Something extra special in your 4xEL84 designs, I think. (Maybe I need to get that MAZ 38 after all.)

I must have bought it from the guy you sold it to. Anyway I have had it for a few years now and it is well cared for and played.
