I have paired together many amps to run A/B but this seem to be about the best match I have heard. The Princeton Reverb has a Weber 10F150 which is a very efficient speaker and works great as the clean amp. The MAZ 8 has a Scumback M75 which is much less efficient but it works better with dirt pedals so I reamp it with my Fryette PS-2. Pushed with a Barber Direct Drive it gets very "Marshally". It seems to be the perfect level for volume sensitive clubs. It would be nice to actually get to play in a live venue again.

Doing "clean" is pretty easy. I learned some time ago though how essential the speaker is to OD tones. None of the speakers I've tried that play clean well sound right to me for overdriven tones. Dirt pedals can do a good job of producing amp distortion but I have never heard one that can emulate good speaker breakup like a Greenback; thus the current popularity of IR's and the UA OX. The two speakers I am using work well for me for this.

I bet this would be a great combo to hook together.

Did you have the V2 mod done to your Maz 8? I did mine and the difference is huge, on all fronts. I was thinking about selling it until I got the update done, now it's for sure a keeper. It definitely made the amp one of my favorites. For what it's worth I'm running a Z-12 speaker in my Maz 8 and it works quite well for both clean and drive tones.
The one amp I've never owned was a PR. I've always had my eye out for one but never had the chance to even try a good one.

The one amp I've never owned was a PR. I've always had my eye out for one but never had the chance to even try a good one. My MAZ 8 is about 4 years old so I assume it is a V2. I noticed that the reverb is stronger than what was on the MAZ Jr it replaced. Isn't that a trait of the V2? Since I first posted I have gone back to the Z-12 speaker. Such a great match for that amp. The Scumback has moved on to a modified Traynor YGM-3 which is a more Marshall sounding platform. I like PR's that are basically stock. I see mods that make the phase inverter more like a Deluxe Reverb and also where the baffle has been re-cut to take a 12" speaker. My feeling on that is if you want a Deluxe then get one. Leave the Princeton like it is.
