Just going to throw this out there...... Is there any way to modify the Jr circuit to eliminate the master volume all together? Like just take it out and have the 15 watt circuit? And.....if so could we put in place the speed/comfort switch in it's place? Really just have a Z Wreck Jr being identical to the big boy, just half the power..

Just as Rockefeller pointed out, The original seems to be what your looking for. Reverb seems to have quite a few. The Dr Z half power switch would then provide best of both worlds.

Agreed. You want the big Z Wreck if speed/comfort is a must. But to answer your questions.
The speed/comfort function is a byproduct of the special power transformer in the big wreck. Its the only amp doc sells that has it. It’s quite expensive and a key factor behind the increased cost of the z wreck. Or maybe said differently, part of the reason for the immense value of the Z wreck jr.
If I recall, that master volume circuit is post phase inverter. Not your typical master on a crappy $400 beginner amp. When turned up full it is essentially out of the circuit.
To try to mod the amp to have those features would be costly and would potential cause more harm than good. In your case, save up for the big Z wreck.
That said, the 1/2 power mod defeats the option of speed/comfort. If you want the best of all worlds, you need a big wreck and an attenuator. Big money. World class tone though.

I think it is absolutely feasible and I'm sure they tested the amp that way. It is a little different that the full power model via the Power Transformer. I don't own one, I just follow the spec's I doubt that Dr. Z Amps is in a position to make any modifications to an amp that is sold out, and that will probably not change for a while. Then he will hit with the Z28 Mark II and then the CAZ. I think it is a reasonable question, and I think the amp would definitely be a little squirrely in a good way. I'm betting the answer is 'No Time and no ROI' for right now.

Thanks for the replies, all. I'm not an electrical engineer by any means. I just play the amps and don't pretend to know how everything works. Thanks for explaining the speed/comfort tranny relationship. I have recently purchased a Z Wreck JR so I'm still getting to know it.

The best Of all worlds way I found is to use the big Z Wreck with the speed/comfort switch in place.. then use a Fryette PS2 to tame the beast. Plus you get an effects loop from the Fryette to put delay and reverb. And you get the big Z Wreck 2x12 which is a big part of the Z Wreck sound.

I'm fairly new here so forgive me if this has been discussed ad nauseam.

No offense taken here. I hope I did not sound dismissive with my comment. Was simply trying to say:
1. Removing the ZWJR’s master volume wouldn’t really improve anything from a tonal standpoint due to its thoughtful design and transparency.
2. The speed comfort thing is not a simple or easily tweakable function liking changing out a pot or resistor value. You could “emulate” those changes with a rectifier tube change (5v4,5ar4) but would also need to rebias the amp to accomplish that properly. That means more mods and mods that are not “swappable” or switchable. Like you can’t just flip a switch and get the changes.

I have the Z Wreck Sr. And half power switch on, it's still a beast...it smokes my rx jr in volume which is rated 18W?

I have read and possibly heard Dr. Z himself say that when the Jr’s master is at full, it is out of the circuit. So put it on full, and just use the Volume control.
