My first Z was a Maz 38 Reverb 2x10 combo, I purchased used. I was hooked the moment I plugged into it. The longer I owned it, the more I loved it. There's no end the "honeymoon phase" with a Maz. So of course I started thinking, hey if I like the Maz 38 so much, maybe I'll like a different Z even more. And so began my tour of much of the Z lineup.
It's amazing how consistently wonderful all the Z models I've tried have been. But after all my experimenting with different amps (mostly Z's), I still came back around to the Maz. It's just perfect. It's the Swiss Army amp. So versatile.
I ended up going back to the the Maz as my "A" rig, and currently run a Maz 18NR MKII. I just love this thing! But the other day a buddy I gig with brought over his Maz 38NR MKI. I gotta say, it's definitely NOT just a bigger Maz 18. It has it's own magic that I haven't found anywhere else. There's a very specific "boldness" I hear in the 38. Don't get me wrong - The Maz 18 is close, and is one of the all time best amps ever produced, imho. But for what I'm currently looking for, I really think the Maz 38NR is the EXACT match for me.
I'm going to see if I can trade my Maz 18NR chassis for a Maz 38NR chassis. If not, I'm still loving my Maz 18!
It's just so cool how the Doc nailed it with the Maz's so long ago. I don't think they can be outdone.

There's something special about the Maz 38s. I was playing my 38 Bluesman the other day - such a sweet sound from it!

I am playing the 38 MKII as I type. I am sure it is a little different than the original without the MV.
I just love the amp. I have a cream in the amp and a ruby in extension, A little Timmy and Carbon Copy. Oh, a little wine and homegrown tomatoes.
