Hey everyone!
The original z wreck is one if my favorite amps but had to part with it due to the volume making it a poor fit for me.
I am very intrigued by the JR as on the surface it seems like it solves my problems. That being said, what can I expect if I go this route? What tonal properties will I be sacrificing? Thanks in advance

I tried it with a Gold and thought it was a bit brighter than the Greenback. Perhaps a little "tighter". They are pretty similar in tone. I think the advantage of the Greenback is that it's not a loud as the Gold and it really seems better with the amp set to higher gain levels. That's good, because this is the loudest 15 watt amp you'll ever hear! If you already have a cab with a Gold, I'd go with it if you're getting a head. If you're getting a combo, it will be hard for you to take that Greenback out because it sounds so good!

Those clean/ edge of breakup tones are what made me fall in love with the wreck. Hoping to get them with this setup.

You can definitely get that clean/edge of break up on this amp. I may try it again with the Gold this weekend and try to give you all a better review.

I had a gold in mine for a year and its outstanding just a bit loud. I settled in on the good Doc's 12

Here's a review of my comparison between the 25 watt Greenback and the 50 watt Gold. I used my Heritage H-535 and a PCNS Maxxx XP 10 ft cable straight in. I had the amp up to the "sweet spot" for this guitar (for me) at 11:00. It is just starting to break up with this guitar at that setting. The Gold is in my Cure cab. That may or may not have an effect to my ears. Here we go. - Both Speakers are very similar in tone.
- The Gold has a touch more sparkle to it.
- The Gold is louder!
- The Gold is cleaner at this setting.
- The Greenback "growls?" a bit in a good way.
- Perhaps the Greenback has more bass? (that could be the different cabs)
- I think both speakers respond to the amp nicely and both sound good.
After all of that, I still like the Greenback better for these reasons: - It's just not as loud, so I can get the amp cooking a little more. The amp is already very loud.
- I love that it's dirtier. At least to my ears it is.
- The Greeback is 1.4 pounds lighter than the Gold and the Blue. I'm getting older. Every pound less matters to me.
You really can't go wrong with either one.
