This Wreck Jr! Pretty much a different beast. Similar DNA as the Wreck Sr, but then ...... fairly different. The greenback makes it quite different, but through my 1-12” Z cab loaded with a Gold it’s a little closer to its father, yet it still is different. The Wreck Sr has an mid peak that I can’t seem to replicate in the Jr (kind of that same sweet mids the StangRay does). That being said, GREAT, SUPERB! It’s another color on the palette! Really just as sweet an amp as its father, with that bit of a twist that a generation can make (‘member that tune “wouldn’t it be a drag if we was all the same”?). Very versatile, very useful for any type of tune. Was tempted to trade out the greenback for the gold, but decided against it - perfect as is! Keeps it another tonal color. The green back IS killer in there, as the Doc surmised.
This thing is still loud at 15 watts, of course. Who wouldn’t expect such a thing from a Z? Smoooooth breakup, tons of tonal shaping (absolutely love that treble knob thang these Wrecks do, inversely balancing mids/treble in one knob up at 12:00-3:30). Been playing back and forth with and without a brake lite to get the volume down to what my ears can take. At this (ever changing) point, I think I like the brake on 3-4 with more MV dialed in. However, extremely usable MV even without a brake. A subtle difference at best.
Dying to try this baby out in a live gig, but I guess that ain’t happening for some time. I’ve NO doubts she’ll shine in all settings. And losing 10 lbs (from the Sr weight) is a lil icing on the cake.
Great amp? Yessiree. Keeper? Yessiree. Did he (the Doc) knock another one out of the park? Yessiree. Tip o’ the hat to you good sir! My man.
