This, new to me, DB4 came with new JJ EL84's..... My last DB4 also had JJ EL84's.
I just swapped out the EL84's for some 6n14n tubes I purchased from Perry (here on Z-Talk) a while back, here's my findings:
1. Mid range isn't as pronounced. This is a very mid-heavy amp, so the mids are still VERY much there, but just not as in your face. Prior to this, when I used my Tumnus Deluxe, I had the mids turned down to about 8:30 or 9:00, or else it sounded like an AM radio.... Now, I can put them back up to about 10:00-10:30 and it's a thicker mid-range. 2. More top end. There's enough now, that my Tele with a mini-bucker in the neck sounds great and It brings out the overall "chime" nicely. 3. Low end is fuller. I honestly don't think I could play with the click-tone on 5 now, even with my Tele bridge. It really thumps!
These 6n14n tubes are staying in this amp for the long haul. The more I play this amp, the more impressed with it I become. I take back every negative thing I've ever said, or thought, about this amp... and.... I'm now kicking my own butt for getting rid of the one I had 4 years ago. I wish I gave it more time.

DB-4 has a great voice to it. First time I played one I kept looking at the back of the amp because I could not believe it was an EL-84 amp and not a big bottle amp. Todd

That's the Tube configuration my DB4 came with. Maybe that's why I don't feel a lack of top end in the thing. It's the perfect Tele amp IMHO.

I believe my Z-Wreck had them in it when it came from the factory. I truly miss that amp, so much!!
