Seems like I remember hearing or reading that the Z 28 MK II chassis is a little bigger (height) than some others. I could be wrong. I’m planning to put mine in my red cab that used to house my Maz. I wonder if I’ll need/want a different front panel for my cab for it to fit right??

If you need dimensions, let me know.

Just joined the forum..excited to be here. So, after years of oogling over Dr. Z amps, I picked up a 2014 Maz 18 mk1 this past summer, and was completely blown away. I just love it so much. Sounds go good in a band, great at home. Strong and cuts, but still fat. Good bottom end. So versatile. I know, I'm singing to the choir. Here it is with my tele (my main deal):
Here's my question: I'm usually not a gear hoarder, but I now also really want the Z-28 mkII. Is this going to be too much overlap with the Maz 18? I don't think so, but just wanted a gut check. Seems like the Z-28 is also a great, versatile amp that can cover a lot of territory. Thanks all!

Welcome to the forum. I've owned the Maz 18 and have a Z-28 MkI but I'll leave it up to owners of the new MkII to respond.

I like that pun. The Maz is truly incredible, and I must admit, your AMA videos are so full of passion and heartwarming. It really is the icing on the cake because the quality of your product speaks for itself. I'm going to call my local shop (Parkway Music) and ask them to order one of these Z-28s for me! Yay!

I wholeheartedly recommend the combo as well. I've got one, and it sounds better to me than when I've plugged the amp into any of my other cabs.
It's physics; the way the amp chimes in a 3d way is directly related to the fact that the sound emanates from the front, top, and rear of this cabinet.
It's my favorite amplifier, ever. Of all the ones I've plugged into over the years it is heads and hands above the rest.

I don't even have mine yet but from my experience with the Z-master I am quite confident that The Z-28 MK11 Combo is going to knock down doors and bust through concrete with that huge wall of surround sound 3D tone. I predict its going to be a tough act to follow. Maybe a new line of custom cabs in the new combos speaker box call it the The 3D Z Cab. With the vent on top open back just like the Combo. It will still be lightweight. I don't know maybe Im tripping. Anyway I got the Combo!

What 5881 tubes are recommended for the MK II? I’m about to stick up on tubes, and might as well throw in some 5881’s on my order.

What 5881 tubes are recommended for the MK II? I’m about to stick up on tubes, and might as well throw in some 5881’s on my order. I'm using the Psvane Small Bottle 5881 that are currently labeled BT 5881. These are from my good friend Avi @ BAD he was generous enough to sell me these , and he is trying to sell them direct in the future along with the other excellent BT tubes. May I suggest the EL 34, E 84, 5AR4 those are the three I have tried and really like. They are from the Psvane factory in China, they build mostly for the Hi Fi customers, but TAD ( Tube Amp Doctor ) out of Germany gets their tubes from them , and now all BAD amps will carry them as well. Amplified Parts is now also caring Psvane tubes but they have a different 5881 then the one I use it is a tall bottle . I hope to see if Amplified Parts will bring in the Small bottle 5881 soon. Also a Tung Sol 5881 is an excellent tube , a bit grittier , less clean , and some may prefer that it is a drop in replacement no biasing needed . But the Psvane had more of original Z 28 6V6 tone to my ears with a touch more clean power. And one can not be sure of the supplies of the Tung Sol 5881 built in Russia in the near future.

I just pickup up some Psvane 12ax7 preamp tubes. I haven't seen them before and haven't tried them yet but am glad to hear a good word about their other tubes.
