Hi all just got my first Dr Z amp a ezg 50 anniversary head and Z best 2x12 cab just love it. It sounds wonderful. Bought it used. my only concern is it has a Sovtek ssr fitted in the rectifier valve position. has anyone any experience with these? should I replace it with a tube? any help or advice would be appreciated thanks

The SSR should make the amp more punchy maybe a little stiffer bottom. I think there was talk in the past where the bass had an issue, and there was a Bass Mod I believe. Someone else can fill in the details. I would look up the recommended rectifier from the Z website and grab one to see for yourself. If you like it now then possibly the previous owner had it tweaked well.

Thanks for that. I’ll order the rectifier valve and compare the two.
