Hi,
Sometimes it seems like my MAZ won't come off standby when switched on. I'll start fooling around with this and that, nothing in particular, then it'll come on out of nowhere.
Also sometimes it loses volume on me, but eventually comes back in, and then performs great for a few weeks.
Any ideas, Experiences, comments?
Thanks,

I get the same thing; people have told me to tighten the screws at the bottom of the head or if you have a combo at the top of the head. Interesting advice and I have tried it, but I still get drop out once every couple of weeks. Sounds to me like it's the amp; some people might say it's the tubes but I don't think so, but then again I haven't fixed my bug either so I am not helping you here.
Let's hope we are given some great advice that doesn't require us to pay money to replace things.

bingo, I think there's your problem, this happens a lot on marshalls, the effects loop jacks, 1 is a switching type, which means there is a contact in there that opens when a plug is inserted, when this little contact gets corroded it will cause the amp to fade in and out. next time it does this put a jumper between the send and return and if the amp works then you have to clean that little contact on the jack.

Ditto me with HATSTRAT. I have one but never used it. I'll remember the Jumper thing until I can get inside and neuter the loop.
Thanks,

the jumper will take that little switch out of the circuit and make a solid contact between the preamp and power amp sections of the amp. If this is your problem the amp will work fine when the jumper is inserted in the loop. To clean the switching jack just get a can of Deoxit spray and spray the little switch part of the jack, don't try bending the jack to try to get it to make better contact or you will only make it worse, spray it, walk away and have a cup of coffee, then come back and spray it again, wipe off the excess deoxit and your amp should work fine.

Well,
My problem turned out to be a power tube, which died in the middle of a show last night, after fading in and out for several minutes. I have spare tubes within reach always, so it took about a Minuit and a half to take out the old, put in the spares, fire it off, and go.
I can count on one hand the number of tubes I've lost during a performance in 25 years, and I can count on two fingers the number of times I flat out lost the sound and had to deal with it immediately.
I had JJ EL84's in when it quit. They were 6 months old, But I used an Air Brake with the amp on '10' for 4 of those months, and that'll lead to an early death possibly.
Anyways I put back in the GT EL84 #6 tubes that came with the amp, and after it got hot, they took on that well known EL84 growl, that special- mid rangy in the perfect spot-REAL Vox like drive tone. I was very pleased.
The JJ's are cleaner, head roomier, and BIG sounding, Also very pleasing but a different animal. I may roll with a new set of the GT #6's this time around.
I'm using the Dr. recommended Svetlana 12AX7's in V1 and V2, and I've settled on a JJ ECC803 In PI after rolling several different tubes there.
I just never get tired of this amp. There are so many things you can do to personalize this amps tone.
Still loving the MAZ,

Well,....Turns out that the GT-EL84S (Groove Tubes)Tube is a JJ tube also, so My JJ's were definitely on their way out at the time the one tube toasted on me, and so much so that the used ones brought my tone to life again.
So there it is.
