the last several weeks/month, I've been playing around with different amps I've been trading and swapping around (locally). I ended up with a Mesa TA30 that I've used the past 3 shows. Prior to that, I had a 59 Bassman Reissue, AC15, Egnater Tweaker....So, it's been a few shows since I've used my Maz 18. I've just been testing the waters to find a cheaper, good sounding amp that I won't worry about playing outside or lake gigs where the dew settles heavy on my equipment.
Last night, I took my Maz 18 to the gig... I know it's only been a month (or so), but I really forgot how absolutely GREAT this amp is! I know it's my favorite amp for a reason, but everything about my tone last night was spot on! Cleans, dirt, single coils, humbuckers, country, rock....Everything was so much better with my Maz Jr.
Playing my Maz Jr last night, makes me not want to play anything else. Now, that may change tomorrow when the Z-Wreck Jr comes out, Lol??
If anyone has any doubts about a Maz Jr (18 Mk.II), I assure you - It is THAT good!

Thanks again for putting me onto mine and yes the blackface tones are convincing as hell. I got this new tone on mine I have not heard others achieve with similar setup, strat set to position 4 middle and neck with the tone rolled down about half way or to taste and, amp gain set flat out (no boost), reverb 4, bass 4-5, mid 5, treble 6, cut 4. If you use your thumb and glide over strings while playing a a suspended in its open position (tab 002200) you get this super nice creamy, very harmonically rich tone that i have not really heard before. You may need to tame the tone on the guitar to acheive the sound...country players that use fingers can get super punchy, fat and creamy tones too which is great for double stops. This amp really shines on positions 2 and 4 on a strat with the gain cranked, super addictive.
I must say the Fender American original 50's strat guitar pickups are stellar and the WGS et65 really helps.
Keep in mind this is coming from a person who was on the fence for years regarding z amps and hated el84 amps. KILLER AMP.

Got one loaded with et 65 myself..."no surprises here"...At last count 3 and each is a little different from one another...had made a return to one of favorite Z dealers and I had apologized for return and bought another maz and he said "I wouldn't be surprised if its the only z you end up with...its just that great of amp"...but I still want others of course.

theres something special going on with the transformers, and the simple but effective circuit layout, a lot of website crap of about what they say about an amp but the z website is spot on about the MAZ. I cover all my beautiful deluxe/super reverb stuff, then by cranking up the gain I can go to rock\hard rock mode. Right now i run mine like to sound like a super reverb...SRV style but a bit growlier with more clairty.
The coolest thing is by cranking the gain and rolling the tone back on a strat you get a really nice mark knopfler money for nothing type sound except way harmonically richer and growlier. Superb amp.
can I please get everyones speaker selections please.

what do you think of the reverb, thats the only part I am not 110 percent over the moon about, its definitely nice but for people that like a lot of thick long lush reverb its not the best.

My newer one (blackout) dead quiet and lush enough for me,when I can turn it 8/8:30 and gets it...no complaint here brother.

If you like the SRV sound with lush reverb I'd suggest you listen to an EZG 50 - sounds exactly what you are looking for.

Talking speakers, I've had a bunch of different ones in my 18NR V2. ET-65, Celestion Gold, Greenback, Creamback, Z-12...they all bring out different flavors. Right now I'm back to the stock G12H30. It's just such a great amp!

I think the MKII reverb sound is great. It does use a short tank, so ya the decay may not be as long as a large tank, but the mix can be plenty strong and the reverb tone is warm and definitely spring. In this clip at 1min I turn the reverb up to maybe noon on the dial, and its a nice verb for that kinda bluesy gain tone. For a more dramatic verb there is still plenty left on the knob when i really wanna crank it.
