I just purchased a Strymon Flint and I will have to take something off my board to accommodate this oversized, power crazy beast. So I started guitar straight into amp and added one pedal at a time. I had one pedal that I was a little suspect of I hectic g too much high end so it is gone. However the thing that surprised me most was one patch cord worked fine until I moved it and it went totally dead. It worked fine until I put it in that one place then it would go dead again. It went to file 13. I found another one that worked but was choking down my volume. I had felt like I was having to run my volume on my amps too high but attributed it to several pedals in front of the amp. When I replaced that cable my whole rig came alive. Less background noise from high volumes and the pedals interact better. So you might want to go through your board one pedal at a time.

Cables are everything. Switched all my patch cables to Mogami and it made a world of difference!

Do you recall what brand(s) the dead cables were?

No, they are several years old. They were 2 different brands though. They have been through a lot of pedal changes.

Once a year or so, take a .22 caliber bore mop like this, soak it with DeOxit, and clean out your 1/4" jacks on your effects pedals and your amp. You can get these for a couple of bucks at any gun supply house, and they're exactly the right size to use for keeping your jacks nice and clean. Works great.

That’s ninja-level thinking right there. Great suggestion!

I got turned on to the bore cleaner months ago after seeing him post about it a while back. Ordered a 3 pack off of amazon, works great.
