So I heard about a blow out sale at Chicago Music Exchange and decided to call and ask about these Heritage guitars. I've had a Gibson Dot in Satin Red for about 5 years that I have polished out to a nice shine and it's a good guitar, but I don't really love it. It is a reissue of the time when they didn't bind the neck on the 335 and somehow it's always bugged me not having a bound neck on a 335.
I've always wanted a Heritage ever since playing a couple of them at the Mini Z-Fest last summer, and so when Matt from CMS offered to email me a picture of the nicest looking one he had on hand, I took one look and caved in. It's a gorgeous flame natural nitro finish, and it'll be here by Thursday! Seth Lover pickups and mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard Check this out:

I’d love one of the H-150s, but I’m saving my cake for the CAZ.

If you don't bring it to the next Z-fest (Ann Arbor)...you will be dead to me! I promise I will, but only if it'll redeem me from buying a (old wore out) Boogie!

9Great looking guitar. I’m sure you will love it as I do mine. Rock solid instruments. Found it in Kalamazoo at Kal-Tone instruments. Got a great deal on what was said to be a blem. Dang if I could find anything wrong. Congratulations enjoy.

Anything up with Heritage? I know the new Harmony guitars are being made there. Is the Heritage brand on the way out?

I’ve played a Heritage Golden Eagle archtop since 1998.
They make very fine instruments.
This one pictured is a beauty

Anything up with Heritage? I know the new Harmony guitars are being made there. Is the Heritage brand on the way out? I wondered that same thing. The inventory list posted by CME looks a LOT more like a factory inventory list than any dealer's, however large. Hard to imagine a dealer jumping out there and taking a chance on so large a commitment.

Congrats. I'm sure it's going to be great. Where are you seeing this blow out list? I looked at CME and didn't notice it .

Anything up with Heritage? I know the new Harmony guitars are being made there. Is the Heritage brand on the way out? I haven't heard anything recently. But what was it, 2 or 3 years ago when all the long time workers quit, or got fired by the new management? I guess it was over Heritage going down the path of CNC and plek machines. The workers objected and got into a heated dispute with management. I haven't heard anything since that dust up.

I visited the Heritage factory last summer. They are not using CNC for Heritage models. They are using the PLEK machine on some of the higher-end guitars.

There are some people that mourn the end of hand-crafted guitars that will be caused by the use of automation to build guitars.

Heritage, in the golden years, built everything the old-fashioned, craftsman by hand way. The workers gave their heart to build some exquisite custom examples at bottom end wages. Every year the loyal would gather with the employees and show off their custom guitars. The factory took on some difficult custom options and they were treated as royalty.
There was no grand exodus, more like a gradual push of the craftsmen toward the door as they passed on their skills. Then the fateful day when a vast majority of the craftsmen were pink-slipped. Two more joined the ranks citing the injustice toward their co-workers.
Since that day, Heritage has become a much different company. Excessively top heavy, they have cut their line-up to only the best sellers leaving customization to the rich and famous.
I understand they want to turn a profit and wish them luck. With the exception of the 535 and 150, Heritage isn't even a thin sliver of what they were. Good guitars, no doubt. A FAR better organized production floor. But, not the company or skills we used to know.

It doesn't seem like a factory encouraged blow out. When I talked to CME yesterday as I was ordering the guitar, I asked if they had several open that could be compared, and there were a few in the back room. He told me that the rest of the instruments were 'across town in our warehouse' and not readily available for comparison. So it would seem like CME ordered a bunch of them and they're thinning out the inventory. He also told me that they'd done the same thing with Gibson, I think it was, several years ago. Whatever, I'm really looking forward to getting mine. CME does a complete set up for their guitars, and I asked them if they'd put .009's on mine. I offered to pay but he said it was on their dime. Very cool!
I hope they Plek'd mine...is there any way to tell?
It's due for delivery tomorrow, so I'll have some initial reports then. Can't wait!

It's here, I unboxed it and now I've got it sitting in it's case warming up to the room. I put it next to my glass door in the sunlight, rotating the case every 10 minutes or so. I'm going to crack it open after an hour or so, the direct sun through the window is warming the outside of the case nicely. It's really hard to wait.
