I had some Jenson P10R's laying around from a cabinet my brother & I were thinking about doing....well I put 'em in my Maz Jr & well I think I dig 'em better...My brother had built me a 3x10 cab for my Ghia & I dug the P10R's we put in it...I've had other amps with 10" alnicos before...VK, Bassman RI, Vibrolux...& always like the tone ... Anyone else tried some alinco 10's in thier 2x10 Maz Jr?

I had an alnico pair of Webers in mine for a while. Alnico Blue Pup & Silver 10. Sonically, it was the best my MAZ Jr has ever sounded. GORGEOUS clean tones. But... I really lost a lot of headroom & balls that the stock Z 10's gave. So that's what I'm back to now...
Alnico speakers work great in these amps, but just be advised you'll lose some punch.

I've been a big fan of alnico speakers from way back. BUT the big disadvantage is the lack of headroom/punch and generally a low wattage speaker. In my Super Reverb, I had the oringal CTS alnico's untill they started to rot...yes rot. The glues dried up and whet south. I thought wow, now is a good time to experiment. I bought 4 P10Rs, great but a little too soft in the bottom and headroom, then I went with 4 C10Q's, too much ice pick treble. I then found the holy grail with 2 P10Rs and 2 C10Qs. But the amp never sounded right for anything more than the Blues.
Enter the Maz Jr. The Z-10's are a nice mix of Brit and American. They are warm in every spectrum of tone. Not too muddy, not too trebly, not too middy. And sound great clean, distorted, and all things inbetween.
I've always like my speakers to let the amp do the work, higher wattage ratings (speakers) let this happen. I mean really, we play through the amp, not the speakers...right? I know it's all one and the same. But I think the Dr. got it right with these 10's. I've never even considered something else.

Love them alnicos!
They do take away some punch and they do compress when you hit'em hard. But they sound REALLY good!

I spoke to Ted Weber about the whole AlNico vs. Ceramic debate. Ted recommended AlNico speakers in an open back cab & Ceramics in a closed back cab.
As always, let your ears be your guide.

I had some "harshness" going on when I played on the "high" strings especialy on the G string...I was thinking it might've been the tubes ...but it went away when I put the alnicos in...I have some new tubes comin' anyway...bought the amp used & it's 4 years old ...don't know if they've ever been changed or not...
