Hi I’m having problems with my Z Lux. I was experiencing some pops and crackles. I went in and swapped out and tested my preamp tubes. They seem fine and they are the originals. Subsequently I got a huge hum out of the amp and I noticed red plating on power tube V7. I checked the tubes again and I also got red plating at V10. Seems unlikely to have multiple power tube failure, But I ordered a new set of power tubes anyway. Before I install them I’m wondering if anyone has had this problem and if it’s more likely to be something different related to a component like a resistor, grid, or power supply. I’m not really an amp tech but I can a handle soldering iron. Any ideas on how to diagnose and check? I’m going to try the new power tubes first but I’m not optimistic that it will solve the problem.

Check the screen, cathode, and plate resistors in the power section. Inspect for overheated components. BTW, welcome to the forum...it's the best kept secret on the web. Lots of great people and experience here.

Hi, have you had a chance to diagnose the issue?

I was having an issue similar to this with my Jaz 20/40. I tried the trouble shooting guide but in the end, I had a bad plate resistor (or something like that) and had to have a tech repair it... I ignored this step for a few years so I recommend getting it in to a shop if you can and find out what's really going on. I'm so glad to have it back in action.
