Horrible loud screeching sound after Zlux power on. No guitar Plugged in. Been gigging with amp for a couple of years now with no issues. No recent changes to amp regarding tubes.

If you had no "event" (smoke/hum/burning-smell/fell-off-the-stage), try a new set of tubes....

If you had no "event" (smoke/hum/burning-smell/fell-off-the-stage), try a new set of tubes.... Sounds like a microphonic tube. If you have extra preamp tubes replace one at a time to find the culprit. I am not familiar with the Z Lux -maybe replace one at a time or the whole set. You can always tap each tube with a pen or pencil to see which one screams the loudest.

I called DrZ support number and Don patiently walked me through some diagnostics to figure this out. Turns out is was bad 6v6 power tube. New quad of JJs fixed the problem. I also learned in the process that V3 needs to be a 6201 (not a 12AT7) per Don and DrZ's website where he lists tube replacements for each of his models.
For reference the screeching coming out of the amp was ungodly loud with reverb and master volume turned off and no guitar plugged in.
It's suspected that the cause of the power tube(s) going bad (just a few months old) was switching off standby without letting the tubes warm up and cheap crappy Electroharmonix tubes.

Good job, glad it's up and singing again. 99% of tube amp problems are related to tubes. Tubes are why we love them and why they can be a pain in the butt too.
