Took delivery of a Jetta today. All the knobs just happened to be set at noon. Plugged in a tele and wow! Warmth, sparkle, and beef. I am a working musician, and have used my Z-Lux, Z-Plus, and Nova on my various gigs, all with great unique tones. But this Jetta is something different. The doctor has done it again!

I’m waiting on the next run of Jetta’s to arrive at Sweetwater and it will be my first Dr. Z! It’s basically the amp of my dreams, I gigged with a ‘66 Ampeg Gemini for a few years and only retured it because it was a little bit too underpowered in the cleans and was afraid of reliability issues after a few years of really heavy gigging. Needless to say i’m Very excited to get back that 7591 hi-fi like clarity and warmth. That being said, i’m haven’t even gotten my first Z and am already trying to decide which will be my next. I’ve listened to tons of demos and although they are very different the Z-Plus and the Nova are at the top of my list, mainly due to the warm cleans and smooth overdrive tones. Any thoughts on which of these would best compliment the Jetta? I also frequently use a Vox AC30hw2x and a DRRI and would love something that would sound good in stereo with these as well. Sorry to get a little off track. Congratulations on the new amp and i’m Looking forward to comparing notes with you soon!

Before we just give you recommendations on amps, it would be good to know what type of music you plan on playing and what type of venues you plan on playing.

Before we just give you recommendations on amps, it would be good to know what type of music you plan on playing and what type of venues you plan on playing. Hi Mike, thanks for the warm welcome. I’ve played a lot of different stuff over the years, all of it original, and have been gigging for about 20 years(just about half my life) Right now, I play mostly heavier indie rock and shoe-gazey type stuff, anywhere from Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. through newer, heavier stuff like Diiv and Cloakroom. Although no matter what type of music I am playing I tend to let my inner Neil Young dictate my style and tone, lol. When I’m playing for myself at home I tend to play really clean atmospheric stuff with lots of ambient delay and reverb. I don’t gig as much as I used to but when I do the clubs and venues will vary from smaller bars with 100 person capacity up to medium size venues and halls that hold ~350–400. Almost always have a good FOH system. My tone journey through the past up til now has always been less about getting my gear to sound like someone else than is has been about utilizing classic tones to create new sounds. I do use a good amount of pedals and have put together a couple boards that are versatile but sound good with a wide breadth of amps and guitars.

Hey, Glumlord. I really don't understand how to navigate a thread, but here goes. The Z-Plus would be a nice compliment to Jetta. I play vintage style teles and strats in a classic old school country band. Plus is very lively amp. I swapped in a creamback which tamed top end, but gave up a little gain. The Nova is its own thing, also different. My bass player loves the Plus, my steel player likes Nova. They will both love Jetta I am certain.
