I know this has been done.everybody has an opinion so what's yours? Edit: Assuming 24bit. If you are not recording at 24 bit. you should think about it.
I'll say that I'm at 44.1 or 88.2 depending on how many tracks at once i need. and the 88.2 is only because the latency is lower and down conversion math should be easier.

The 24 bit compared to 16 is actually more important.

24 Bit - Definite Yes! I seem to have problems transferring wav files when they're not 44.1. We've tried 88 and such and always ran into an issue. So, I stick to 44.1 figuring that's where I'm going to end up anyway.

I can work with any sample rate but things like vocals, cymbals and acoustics sound better at higher rates so I prefer higher rates.

When I use higher than 48 my ADAT expansion is reduced. other than that, I could record at any sample rate but for guitar, I honestly can't hear a difference. What I don't know is that if I send a 44.1 file to someone, would they have more options if i used a higher rate? something that i can't even hear? when they bring the file into their rig does it even matter? I realize that converters come into play at some point but man, this is a simple thing to change. so should i just use 192 to cover bases? (I'm not expecting an answer to these questions)

Okay. my interface can do 24bit/192khz. I'm gonna go DAW at 32bit float, 96khz, and 64bit processing. convert/export as needed. why not

This all worked great until i get about 30 tracks full of Slate's Tape Machine and MixRack. These plugins seem to be super hogs.
