So... I've got a Carmen Ghia in a trade today, it is my 4th Dr z amp (Maz GT, Maz jr., Therapy, although I don't have them anymore). It's a Z I always wanted to try and to own, and the day has finally come !! I've had minimal play time on it yet, but already I can say I'll really enjoy this amp. I will play it through a 3rd power 1x12 (best 1x12 cab I've ever owned) loaded with a very well broken in V30. I know it may not be the absolute best speaker of choice for this amp, but I'll give it a try before trying something else. I am trying to date the amp. The serial number is 7894, with my very limited knowledge, I was thinking maybe it was a 1994, but with some other pictures I think it is more a 2004-2005. I'll post a few pics, let me know what you guys think. Does the date stamp on the side means date of production or is it a tech visit later on in it's life... Also depending on the year it was made, was there any big changes in the circuit ? Will make a search on this... Thank you very much in advance for your help!

So with a bit of searching, I've found that the serial number is actually P-7894, so that would date it to a 2005 model, I think that is pretty much it!

There are many on the forum that like the V30 with the Ghia. So don't think it's a poor choice. Let your ears decide. When I had mine, I used a 10" gold, but it was a combo (so I had no choice about size) and I was playing new country, so I was going for a specific tone. But depending on what you're looking for, that V30 could do nicely. Just make sure it's broken in! (They sound terrible if not broken in)
As I understand it, the V30+Ghia combo is for people looking for a more rock and roll tone. (and it should cut through the mix pretty well)

Thanks for the reply. The amp will be used to play a lot of different styles, but mainly revolves around Rock (classic rock, hard rock ish, Rock alternative). So for that I think the V30 should work well, like you said i'll let my ears decide, but I've also found that this cab is good by itself, but really shines when in a band mix, so that will be the real test with the Ghia.

Congrats! I really like the Ghia with a gold. Like Eric says, everybody should own a least one Ghia! I have 3 of them - One of the original 50 Hammond chassis Ghias, a V2 Ghia, and a somewhat rare 12 BH7 tubed Ghia. Great little amps!

Thanks Mike!
So far I really like my V30 with it, but I'm looking at local classified for a Blue or a Gold to try at some point. Also I'm reading all possible threads on the Ghia, especially regarding tubes and also relation with some pedals. Mine currently has JJ's EL84, and I remember having them in other amps in the past, I like them, but do not ''love'' them if that makes any sense. I saw a Dr Z vid about the 6n14n russian tube, that is equivalent to EL84s, sounds great and last a very very long time. Anyone tried those in a Ghia ?
Also in terms of pedals, I'm trying to figure out how I'll run the Ghia in a band context, so mainly when wanting a dirtier sound, will I use more boost/drive or overdrives that have their own type of flavor... questions questions

My Ghia came with JJ's, they blew up on me....so I switched to the 6n14n russian tubes. They took longer to heat up in the Ghia. (which is no big deal) To me, they were firmer and more robust. A little less sag than the JJ's. A little more dynamic/percussive. For the style of music I was playing, I liked them.

Thanks for that report. I think it sounds like I would like them too. I've already Identified a few sellers on eBay that I get some from.
