Can anyone compare the volume of the Maz jr to another amp? I wanna buy one but i'm wondering just how loud it really is. Power ratings are deceptive for volume in db espesially with class A. I read that ppl use it in a small club and its plenty loud but does it have enough headroom to fill a small club before breaking up?

I'll let you know this weekend. For my blues-rock band, I normally use my Marshall TSL601, but it's in the shop. I'm going to try to use my MAZ 18 2x12. I too have concerns about its volume. It will be a small club (a converted Pizza Hut) and not miced.

Don't be fooled by the "18". The JR is actually 22 watts, a LOUD 22 watts, I might add. Until recently, I played thru an AC30. Since I got my MAZ JR (1x12), the Vox has stayed in it's case. It reaches all volume I ever needed with the Vox. I'm not saying that it's as loud as the Vox, but I never used all the volume the Vox had. Never needed to. The JR gets all I need.

It depends on speaker configuration too. With the 2X10" Z speakers, it's pretty darn loud. I haven't made an A/B comparison, but I think it's louder than a Deluxe Reverb. With the Z-Best 2X12, it's even louder, and has even more bass, but is more focused and directional. With my 2X12" open back with Celestion Blues, it seems even louder than the Z-Best sometimes, but I think that's due to the open back's "spread" vs. the Z-Best's directionality. Using the low input, master volume up full, volume from 12:00 up, and a pedal like the Xotic RC Booster, and a Z-Best suits my needs. If I needed any more volume it would have to be on a very large stage or an outdoor gig.

My MAZ 18 with 2 10's was always louder than my '66 Deluxe Reverb until I put a Weber ceramic Cali in it. Even then, it was "even" in terms of volume, but not louder than the Z. Dr. said in an interview once that the MAZ 18 was more like 23-24 watts, but it sounds like more. It will easily keep up with a 40 watt Fender, and will cut through the band better than a lot of even more powerful amps than that.

Report of my first gig with MAZ 18 2x12 (celestions) w/ Les Paul (last night)
Marshall TSL601 in the shop...used MAZ 18 that I've owned since November
It has enough power. Much more defined than my Marshall TSL601...not dynamic enough. The whole band commented on how good the amp sounded. Used a Boss Overdrive for some leads which really can push volume even higher. Very percusive amp. Not as screamin' lead as the Marshall, but that's what the Boss is for. However, for everything else, it was so much more clear. Not clean, but clear. (yes, I can get clean) Chunky rhythms are not as muddy. (big problem on the TSL series)
I ran the amp pretty hard, volume almost all the way up, and master 2/3rd the way up. I have to remember to take spare EL84's to gigs now.
Anybody want to by a Marshall TSL601?
