Switched out a WGS Reaper 30 and paired the Ghia up today with a G12M Heritage Greenback. Really like it. It is rated at 96 dB and I could tell a difference. Was able to turn up a bit and the master volume on my 25th even felt a little different. Everything at noon and it sounded great. The highs and lows are a bit less prominent, but I like the more neutral sound. My Timmy also sounds a little sweeter hitting a slightly hotter amp.

I've been looking for speaker to replace the Warehouse ET65s in my 2x12 StoneAge cab and the that Celestion is one I'm looking at. I'm suffering a bit from paralysis by analysis though! There are so many great speakers and I'd like to find a speaker that works well with both the Ghia and the Route 66. That Celestion really could be the ticket...

This might save you a few $$
The 'Heritage' greenback is expensive. The celestion EVH speaker is that SAME THING...but with a different magnet cover. But it's less money. So if you don't mind that goofy EVH signature plastic magnet cover, you've saved some money.

I'm a bit confused as the Heritage speakers I thought were made in England and are 30 watts but I see the EVH is rated a 20 watts and I didn't see where it's made. I'm trying to get a handle on all this stuff as I've always been a combo guy and haven't done a tone of speaker swapping!

The newer greenback is a 25 watt speaker and 98db, made in China. The Heritage greenback is a 20 watt speaker and 96db made in England. And the EVH is the same thing as the Heritage but with that goofy VanHalen striped plastic magnet cover.
There are some other speakers out there that have the dark green magnet cover that look like greenbacks, but they're not the G12M greenback listed above.
WGS also makes a greenback clone. I have one. It's nice. ...and a lot cheaper than Celestion.

Thank you for the information. I think I was thrown by the "G12M Heritage" designation in the OP. That doesn't seem to exist...right?
I'm looking at several things including Scumback, mixed speaker in the cab, different celestions....but a big part of me wants to just drop in a couple of greenbacks and call it good. Ultimately it may all be a moot point as the Z 4x10 I'm getting from my friend may include a swap of this cab and then it can be his decision...haha!
Thanks again.

Sorry for any confusion, maybe should've said "Heritage Series G12M". Agree with John on the EVH and WGS info, great options as well.

Nah, it's mostly me...I'm having a bit of trouble keeping track of all Celestion's numbers and names!

The newer greenback is a 25 watt speaker and 98db, made in China. From what I understand, the 25 watt reissue Greenbacks are now made in the UK.

This one will crack you up. I've got a Fender branded EVM12-L that was pulled from an old Fender Concert amp. It's the one with an aluminum dust cap. It's mounted in a small 1x12 open back cab that I built years ago, and the Carmen Ghia sounds absolutely HUGE through this cab! One of the things I love about the Ghia is how different it sounds through different speaker cabs. A 10" Celestion Gold sounds great in an open back cab too.

I had one of the smaller Mesa closed back jobs with the EV. Sounded so hifii. Pretty sure I had it still when I got my Therapy didn’t work. It would be interesting to hear the Ghia.

Is there a reason to go with a heritage greenback over the Creamback? I only ask because I have other amps that wouldn’t be able to pair with the Greenback, but might sound amazing with a Creamback.

I prefer the Ghia with a Creamback over a Greenback.

I believe the creamback is voiced for a little more bass.

I've got a couple of Creamback 65 speakers and like John mentions, they are nice and fat on the bottom end. They make the top really smooth too, a little too smooth unless your amp is good and bright sounding... Our Praise Band needs to get the stage volume down so after re-reading this post I just ordered a Celestion G12 EVH. I got 15% off at Musicians Friend this morning...they've got a sale going so if you're on the fence, now is the time. $134.25 shipped to my door.

I’m using my Monza I have for sale this morning. I wanted to see how I could do with a high gain amp that forces me to ride volume and tone. I have to say... I’m impressed. Delay and reverb have been the bulk of the pedals I’ve used. I have a RYRA Kline with gain turned all the way down as an eq to brighten the neck pickup on my LP. Otherwise, it’s excelling.
