Just found this on accident! Was looking at specs for the blue and gold, trying to figure out how heavy the magnets are... I’d imagine there are a few guys here with red combos that may be interested in these celestion.com/product/216/celestion_ruby/Also: I know I’m a newbie here but this marks my 100th post. That’s fun. Big news for a “big” post.

Looks like they announced it at NAMM this year. They also are releasing a 10” version of the Creamback.

Trying to wrap my head around what territory this new Ruby speaker serves. Is it a (slightly) higher-powered Blue? Or a (again, slightly) lower-powered Gold? Seems like we're splitting hairs now at this point.

That's what I thought.

Ditto I seem to be very content with a Cream Alnico by itself or mixed with a G12M65 or the V30

I don’t know, I can see the marketing logic. They have a 15w, 50w, and 90w albino. Nothing in that 20-40w range. A lot of amps sit in that zone so I can see a desire for a 35w “blue” that pushes the speaker harder than it would the 50 or 90.

Interesting. Perhaps folks wanted more speaker break up at lower volumes. You have to hit the Gold pretty hard to get the break up that you can get with the Blue. Just taking a stab here.

I saw this speaker on a report of the NAMM show. I don't remember who was doing the report. I think I remember them saying it is a slightly warmer speaker than the Gold or Blue. I love my Gold but it doesn't sound it's best at low volumes. It needs to be pushed a little. That works great at a gig where I can re-amp my MAZ 8 to as much as 50 watts. But at home I might be better off with this Ruby alnico. OR...maybe I should just use the stock Z-12 at home. The truth is it sounds better at low volumes than the Gold.
I have a spare Gold so you will probably see it soon on the BST and I will replace it with a Ruby. I AM curious about this speaker.

I read a comment that a Celestion rep said "It sits between a Blue and a Cream". Obviously that's true of the Gold, but I think the Gold sounds the most different of those three (based on what I've read). I wouldn't be surprised if it was truly just a closer rendition of a Blue, but at 35w. Seems like most guys with a wreck or ray, or other 30 watt Vox variants have to resort to a Gold in a 1x12 scenario, although the Gold is really not a true "higher wattage blue". This may be the better offering for that scenario?

I assume the 12" will be the usual $275.00 - $300.00?

I've been waiting for this for a while....For mid powered amps: Blue too fragile, and the Gold just a little to stout....
Ruby? Are you my dream speaker?...we'll see!

Hmmm.... 2 of these in a open back 2-12 with a JTM45 type head. Could be quite lovely.

I will probably try a Ruby at some point, but I'll wait for Celestion to be deeper into production and for some reviews. The Scumnico is something special. Hard to beat.

Homemade Ruby demo from a guy in Germany who got his mitts on one. Not the best demo. But I hear the potential. Really enjoying my Scumnico though.

So ... what’s the verdict from you all who’ve bought the Ruby? Strongly considering one for my Z Maz 18.
