Just sold the Z Best cab I bought with my Maz Jr. It was from 2008 and it matched perfectly and sounded so good. I became very attached. I’m gigging a ton these days and getting tired of hauling the ~70lb monster around. Plus, the Z-best is too loud, really, for most any show I play. I just ordered a 1x12 Dr. Z cab (black with tan grill) with a stock creamback. I’ll mess with different speakers I am sure, but I’m feeling like I made a bad call. I’m in a mind of simplifying and downsizing which sounds good until you do it. Ha!
Anyone have any insight?
One thing that bums me out, though it’s only cosmetic is that my Maz Jr has a tan grill with brown piping. I believe I can only get a tan grill with white piping now. Small details, who cares, right?

I should say, my order has not shipped yet, so if you have any insights on whom I should order from and what speaker you’d run, I’m all ears!

I understand how you feel. I had a Z Best like yours and while it is a fantastic sounding cabinet it can be too much for many venues. The 1-12 and 2-10 Z cabinets really sound great and are certainly more portable. You will still have good stage volume and tone, plus you can let your Maz Jr breathe a bit more. The Creamback is a nice speaker depending on what tones and breakup you're hoping for. Give the speaker some time to break in. The Celestion Gold sounds killer with a Maz Jr also but it's a very efficient speaker (loud) and can take some time to get loosened up.
