Have you seen the custom colored SG's that Chicago Music Exchange has now? When I first saw the add with all of them together I thought they were pretty ugly. Then I saw a Coral Pink and a Frost Blue one shown separately and I thought "pretty cool". When bunched together the colors clash I realized. Not that I am an expert color coordinator. Just my opinion. Of course the haters came right out on Reverb. Gibson can't get a break. They still make them in Cherry and Black so what's the problem. They have the T-Top pickups which I think sound fine in the bridge position. Not my first choice at the neck. It wouldn't be the first guitar to have it's pickups swapped. $1499 with a gig bag. I would like to see them come with a case for another $100 or so. Heck, that's about the same you'll pay for an American Professional Strat.
If I was in the market for a guitar I'd think about one. But if I make another major gear purchase it's going to be a Carmen Ghia. Still......

I haven't seen them yet, but I'm wondering if this is product from the Gibson pipeline leftover from the Henry era, or if it's from the new CEO. I read an article about the new bossman James Curleigh, he was successful at other firms because he recognized the styles and product types that people really desired to buy.

These are only being sold through Chicago Music Exchange so I'll bet they called the tune on this one. It may not have been their idea originally. As a rep from Musicians Friend I sat in on a product development meeting once at Gibson. At the time we were the largest Gibson retailer worldwide. We nixed a couple of things they were considering. One thing they decided to pursue, despite my input, was the VOS finish. I told them it looked phony. They had already invested in the Timesavers sander to do the pickup covers.
They will only have to invest in a few gallons of paint to see how this takes off. CME will do the marketing since they are their exclusive colors. It's not like the investment made for the robo-crap. I think it is a good move.

I think there are custom colors outside of the CME colors.

CME kicks butt. Just won a RC booster v2 in their great gear giveaway.

There's a new taxicab-yellow SG w/tortoise pickguard that I think would be pretty cool if replaced with a standard black pickguard. Perhaps it's because I once saw Audley Freed with one that Gibson custom-built for him, and I thought it was sweet. Not a "traditional" color for an SG, but still vintage-y looking and slightly unique.

My 17 year old, Joshua, likes the frost blue one and the olive drab he said was "dope" . . . I understand that to be a very high compliment! ha ha

Some tortoise shell has a nice yellow in it and would be a good match.

These look great. I'm going to keep an eye open in a couple years. CME got a butt ton of 339's and I ended up scoring one well under a grand. I never totally loved it and let it go after about six months on a break even deal. Now the market has come back up and those same ones are closer to $1,400. I like SG's a lot.
