Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard Figured Red Sky Fade VOS. I've played some great guitars in my life. But NONE of them compare to this. And yes, I know it's in a USA case. But the Lifton style case just doesn't feel as sturdy as the USA case, so I have my old LP in the Lifton. You can see it in the background of one of the pics.

Awesome John! Congrats. I am doing the same thing with my new R9....using a Gibson USA case and keeping the Lifton at home.

Awesome John! Congrats. I am doing the same thing with my new R9....using a Gibson USA case and keeping the Lifton at home. Is it normal for the Lifton cases to fit the guitar loosely? Like when I have it in that case and pick it up, the guitar sounds like it thumps against the lid more than in the USA case.

Like when I have it in that case and pick it up, the guitar sounds like it thumps against the lid more than in the USA case. Mine has 2 small foam wedges in the headstock area that keeps it fairly tight. I have some cases from the early 70's and they don't fit nearly as well as today's cases do. In fact, when I do transport the older guitars, I put them in modern cases. So much better. The Lifton style is a throwback to the old LP cases. I guess that's one thing where trying to exactly match the late 50 axes is a negative!

Gorgeous!
I have the original Lifton case for my '64 335, and yes the guitar is a slightly loose fit, so I guess they were always like that. I carry that guitar in a modern case.
