Hi, I've had the Maz Jr 1x12 for about a month and I thought I'd change the speaker. I love the amp but sometimes with a Tele, the tone seems to have too much sweetness to it, rather than thump.
I thought I'd swap the G12H30 for a Vintage30 or Celestion Blue? Anyone have experience with either speaker in a Maz Jr? I love the V30 in my Trace Elliot Velocette.
Also, it looks like the G12H30 speaker is stuck to the cab? Any tips on removing the speaker without ruining it?
Thanks for any advice. Great info on this forum. Joe

Thanks for the link. I probably won't mess with the speaker. I wouldn't want to mess up the cabinet or speaker without knowing for sure what the results would be.
I did come up with new tone settings which got rid of the high end nasalness on the Tele: treble 12 to 1 o-clock, mids at 12, bass at off, cut barely above off.
The tone settings on this amp can take a while to learn. They interact a lot. I kind of wish it had a single tone knob like the CG or the velocette, but the jr is more versatile. The key for the tele was turning down the bass and cut. My EC strat was much easier to dial in. I still have to work on a good setting for the SG - it overdrives much too quickly.

Plug the SG into the low input.

Thanks - I am using the lo gain inputs for the EC strat and the SG. Hi gain for the tele.
The same tone settings except with the cut adjusted higher worked for the SG. I think my problem before was I had the bass and mids too high, and to compensate I also turned up the cut. This combination actually lowered the headroom so the SG would overdrive too quickly. I keep the master vol up around 3pm so I already get a lot of bass. So by turning bass all the way off, mids and treble around noon, and the cut 7am to 10am (for humbuckers), I'm getting the tone I like - a thick, clean tone. It sounds great with pedals too - a fuzzhead and timmy.
I'm going to see how I like for this for a couple of weeks - maybe I'll finally be able to sell off the velocette.
