I wanted a super strat so I bought a newer Charvel. I liked the neck but the guitar was too heavy for my tastes. This was not hard for me to decide, but I felt I could make a similar guitar but significantly lighter. I had Musikraft make a super lightweight body out of Swamp Ash from the back pile of aged planks. The Charvel neck has a different dimension than a standard Fender neck, MusiKraft said they could cut that pocket for me. From there I sent it to MJT for painting, I wasn't after anything exotic but I wanted the Nitro paintjob. I'm a little disappointed in the paint job, I did not want a relic'd job, I just wanted closet clean with a little arm wear. I didn't get the arm wear, which is not that big of deal, but the buffing of the finish has swirls and such and it doesn't look that great in the light, but I also have horizontal checking so it gets pretty busy if you look in the light. It seems like they didn't finalize the buffing or maybe they did. I think it will look fine after all of the hardware. BTW the body came in at 3 lbs 7 ounces painted, which is very pleasing. This will be my E flat rocker.

Back in high school a friend of mine had a Charvel Model 6. Great guitar. Looking forward to seeing your new guitar completed.

Dave, My current dilemma is to that I bought black pick ups and my tech doesn't want to mount the pick ups to the body but wants me to use Humbucker trim. I think it would look best with cream colored pick ups, I may have to exchange my black ones for cream or maybe just Zebra's

I wonder why your guy doesn't want to mount the pickups to the body? All he needs to do is epoxy some nuts (or a threaded plate?) into the pickup cavity and its done. I bet it would look great with cream against the orange though.

Is that a Santana coffee mug sitting there? You can tell where my mind is at this early on a Sunday. Orange Charvels and coffee, yeah!

That's Dave Lynch's workbench, he owns Guitar Workshop in Sacramento. The Charvel plays well for the short time I have had with it. The color is still in the growing on me stage, it's definitely unusual. The guitar is definitely as light as I wished, I think it will be a player. I had a D-tuna installed and that's kind of cool, but I don't think I would trust it on stage, the jury is still out. Alnico Pro II in the neck Custom custom in the bridge I'm working on a name for the new beast. 1. Agent Orange or 2. West Coast Ugly (That's a nod to nicholas Old Ugly Lester)

Guitar looks great. I usually don't like zebra pups, but they work there. More importantly hows it play?

I was looking at the wiring pictures better. So how do you have the pickups wired? Looks like interesting push pull CTS pots. I haven't seen them like that with exposed lugs. The CTS ones I have that look similar are just round holes the wire goes in and you solder to the edge of the hole. Where'd you get em?
Coil tap on the tone I think, hard to see... Anything on the V?

Yes, both the volume and the tone will pull out and give you a single coil tap. Pretty cool, Dave from Guitar Workshop wired it up for me. BV
