I just had to come here and brag, because, well, who else will listen?? So last weekend I had a gig at the local watering hole in Sunnyvale, Ca. I thought the Monza was sounding particularly good that night, and apparently so did one of the patrons. He came up to me several times talking about how good the Z sound. Said I'm only the second Z he's seen around. He was saying "you know how it sounds when you listen to music through headphones, well that's how your amp sounds out here". He kept wanting to hear me louder, especially when we were playing Sweet Child o Mine. Afterward he said "you got to turn that **** up man!". Haha. He also said "don't you ever in your life get rid of that amp!" Anyway, it felt good that people appreciate good tone and quality equipment. And the funny thing was before that night I was seriously thinking of possibly getting rid of the amp, or just going back to the Maz 18 (which I love too). Okay, bragging over The FonZ

Nice to hear. I just had similar experience taking my newly acquired EZG-50 and Dr. Z 4x10 cabinet to the local weekly blues jam. Got several compliments on it also.

Very cool!!! Its interesting to me how the Monza kinda gets billed as a one trick pony but it is way more versatile that people give it credit for. I think part of this comes from the fact that is sounds so darn good driven hard that its cleans either get overlooked or don't sound as good in comparison. Great amps, was sorry to see them discontinued but am glad I have one!! I also look forward to hearing what Doc comes up with in the future . . . . as we have been seeing he isn't really eliminating amps, he is shelving them and recreating them into something better. Just check out the Galaxie to Nova . . . . Mmmmm, mmmm, good! Todd

I still remember the video of your Monza Todd, and how loud you said it was. That had a big influence on my getting one. Glad mine has the m/v though. Fantastic amp, clean or dirty!

Todd You know it's interesting to me me that people say the one trick pony thing, but honestly it almost doesn't have enough gain sometimes. But then again, sometimes I try to get too much ummph from my Strat-Style guitar, when switching over to the LP makes me say "oh yeah, there she is!". But most of the stuff I play is a mixture of 80's, to country, to blues, to rock, to funk, etc. and I don't want all that extra gain most of the time anyway. I think it does blues and funk really nicely, and it does clean up. I don't care about ultra clean stuff, because, well I never play that kind of stuff. What I really like is the dirt I get in my playing these days comes from the MONZA itself, and not pedals. I only use the Timmy as a boost for leads...that's it. And that was my goal when I started looking for the amp.

my youngest son had my Monza in his room for a few months and at the end of the day he was leaning more toward the cleaner side the Monza. It was interesting to see how had the dials set up some days too. He almost always had the drive knob turned all the way down.
Tom from above . . . my first Monza was a non master that I eventually had modded, I then moved to a master on the front panel version (needed to pay some bills and ended up selling that one) but now I have a prototype chassis 1x10 with the master on the front.

Interestingly enough I almost always have the volume and drive at noon....and sometimes that isn't enough drive/gain (with the Strat H/S/S). But then sometimes its like a gang of wild horse ripping apart your house! I never go over noon on the volume because of the fuzz thing it does. I really do love this amp and the fat tone she gives me....

Fonz, what speaker are you using? I've got the 1x10 combo with the Red Fang speaker, and when I take it out people can't believe how huge that little box sounds. The jaws drop!

It's the G12h30w 70th Anniversary. 1x12 Dr Convertible cabinet. I'm running it as an "open back" with panel removed. I replaced the tubes about not too long ago using the exact specs that Doc put in originally.

Okay. You know all that stuff I was saying above? Well, last night the MONZA was a freaking beast! She sounded so tough when it was time to be tough and funky when it was time to be funky....and it made me smile.
