As you may have seen in my other post, I’ve got a used 2x10 CG on layaway. I’m considering making it into a head and using the existing cab for the speakers. Pros and cons of this set up? I’ve only ever played through 1 head and it was a Remedy. Wasn’t my guitar or cab and I didn’t have much time with it. Obviously, if I had a cab to leave at church (which is where I would normally use it) and 1 for elsewhere, ther would be less weight to move. Any other pros or cons?

I like head/cab because of the flexibility in using different cabs with different speakers (in type, size, and number). You can easily change how the amp sounds by running 1x12, 2x10, 2x12, etc.
That said, if you don’t think you’re likely to invest in several different cabs, the the combo is a more convenient grab n go package.

Howdy,
I prefer going piggyback (Head + Cab configuration). More versatility, as Daddyyelmis mentioned above.

At the risk of offering too-little, too-late, I submit a couple of thoughts, first: a 2x10-convertible cab will be more versatile than a 2x10-speaker cab—jerry-rigged from a combo amp.
Second: the latest generation of Ghia heads (as well as combo amps), are also more versatile, with 4, 8 and 16-ohm speaker connections. Earlier models have only 4 and 8-ohm taps.
I agree with purpletele’s suggestion to contact Peter Mather at Mather Amp Cabinets in your 1st post—Best of luck in your quest for practical, and convenient sonic nirvana.

That is exactly what I did, and it was extremely convenient. I had 2x10 and 1x12 and a Z-Best for a while. It was nice to also swap around according to my mood.
