I'm thinking of getting one, but dont know what to get. I like the old Fuzz Face tones and the Tone Bender tones, definitely a vintage voiced one and not super dirty and splatty. I've found fuzzes to be the most picky of pedals when it comes to what amps they sound great with, so I'd like to hear some experiences. Id probably leave it on with a semi dirty amp setting and use the guitar volume knob, so great clean up is a must. I may also push it with a booster.

I've used both the Fulltone 70 and EQD Park fuzz with my '28. The Park fuzz is very versatile and loud for a fuzz. It sounds great with the amp. The 70 was moved a while back bc I felt like it was a one tone fuzz. The Park controls yield more tonal shaping and fuzz from spit to grit. It's more of what I want out of a fuzz.

I’ve been wondering the same thing! I’ve always been hesitant to pull the trigger on a fuzz because I didn’t know how it’d sound with the 28’. I’ve also wondered how the bad bob boost sounds with the z-28.
Does the park fuzz clean up like those germanium fuzzes when u roll back the guitar volume?

I had a Bad Bob when I was without a Z28, and it is the best one knob boost ive played. Its not a CLEAN clean boost though, but NOTHING is better with a 5E3. I can't see it not sounding awesome with a Z28, as long as you don't want a totally transparent volume boost/"more" pedal.
What worries me about picking a fuzz is the Z28s mids. It's not a bright amp IMO buthas big low mids, and pedals that jack up the mids can mud it out. I'd want a mid neutral to slightly scooped fuzz that doesn't lose the highs, but doesn't make them all tinny and metallic sounding. Something smooth.

The Park does clean up decently and I haven't noticed any mid/mid low mud with it.

Interested in the Park fuzz! How's it live? Its more Tone Bender than Fuzz Face, right? Do you run it into the Z28 set clean or dirty, or both?

I use a Hudson Broadcast with my Z-28. The right side of the pedal is set for a fuzz and it sounds just right. It's hard to find a dirt pedal that doesn't sound good with a Z-28. I didn't like Screamers into mine but I can't say they sound BAD, just too much middy and nasal for my taste. I recently acquired a Shoe Pixel for my bass rig and tested it with my guitar into my Z-28 and it was UNBLIEVABLY good.

I have a basic audio Scarab deluxe fuzz that everyone seems to rave about. It sounded great through my Db4 but I was surprised to find it didn’t sound that great through the z28. I need to mess with the settings some morebut as others mentioned it sounded pretty muddy.

There’s seems to be an opportunity to trade for a chase tone 68 red velvet fuzz. I would trade either my tumnus deluxe or carbon copy for it +/- cash. 1. I hear great things about that fuzz 2. Still not sure if I need a fuzz pedal? I mostly play at church (contemporary) live and at home Most other times. Would you trade the carbon copy or the tumnus deluxe for the fuzz? Just for reference

I guess anyone in general. Has anyone played a FF style fuzz with the z-28? Silicon or germanium?

The Park has some good things live if you mix it prior to engaging the standby switch. What I mean by that is it has to be leveled up right to stand out but I've had that problem with most OD/Dist/Fuzz boxes. You can really dial in the timbre of the fuzz w the treble bass knob. It's a single knob that voices it more octavia-ish one way and more synthy to my ear the other. Like the Bit Commander I used to own. I'll try to get some video with it and my '28.

I'd greatly appreciate that! Set your Z28 at 10-10-11 And then 2-10-2 and rock out! I'll try to get some video with it and my '28.

I'm thinking long and hard about the Park and the Chase 68 Red Velvet fuzz. The Wren and Cuff Your Face 60s is 3rd in the running. I need 2-3 hrs of empty house loud time. I currently DO own a Wilson Effects Fuzz, which is an AWESOME infinitely tweakable Tone Bender type. I have it on the board i use with my 66 Super Reverb, and have it dialed in FOR it. Wanna pull it off that board and see how happy it can make me in front of the Z28. If I can get it dialed in good, I'm sure the Park will be great, as its pretty Tone Bender esque from what I gather. I'd greatly appreciate that! Set your Z28 at 10-10-11 And then 2-10-2 and rock out! We're out of town this weekend but I will try to get something done when I get back home and post here.

I’m really into fuzz actually and for quite a while, and the Velvet is specially round, fat and easy to use. And it offers a very large palette of sounds when using the guitar volume pot. I’m wondering now if I need any overdrive pedal, cause I’m really enjoying playing with only a fuzz (Velvet or low gain Sunface or EHX new Russian Big Muff) into a Strymon Deco and then the Z-Lux.

Here are some of my favorites: Wren and Cuff Your Face 70's (the silicon version) is a great pedal, very smooth singing fuzz. Magnetic Effects White Atom gets a whole range of fuzzy goodness(MkII bender to fuzz face.) Ramble FX Twin Bender is very versatile. There is a bias knob that can take you from splatty to singing.
Park Sound is also very good.

OK. I have to recant my stance on the "clean" sound from the Park. I mainly use it for lead playing and when I recorded it today noticed a nice muted tone to the audio coming out of the amp with the guitar volume down and "on" compared to when it's not engaged "off".

I think i may have found my fuzz. It's a Wilson Effects 5 Knob Fuzz, basically a tweakable germanium Fuzz Face. As I found my preferred setting, it wound up sounding like a super thick overdrive more than a high gain fuzz. It's a mild fuzz to begin with. But how amazingly it interacts with my G&L Legacys volume and PTB tone controls!!! With the amp set to gig volume clean(ish), 10-10-11, and the fuzz(dirt maxed) on, I literally have every tone from pristine clean to Texas Blues to ACDC to Jimi right there at my fingertips! Between 4 and 10 on the guitar volume, and 6-10 on the PTBs bass cut control.
My G&L Legacy is my favorite guitar. But has been my least favorite thru the Z28 due to its low output pickups not driving the amp much at all, and sounding a tad thin. Not anymore! I may never turn the fuzz off! Anyone have an ALWAYS ON fuzz?

I just recently acquired a DR Z z28 and have been playing the heck out of it for a week straight! I have a bunch of fuzz pedals and all have sounded GREAT with it. The one that REALLY shines is the ThorpyFX Fallout Cloud. It is a muff-ish style fuzz and I'm biased because it's my favorite! That being said, I have an analogman BC183 sunface, a germanium fuzz that someone made for me, and a supro fuzz that all sound REALLY awesome!!
When I switch from the z28 to the Maz 18nr, I have to adjust the settings quite a bit to get some of the characteristics I look for in each fuzz to come out. Overall, nothing has sounded bad in the thing and I've spend more time play Dr Z amps with no effects than any other amp I've every played. Definitely love me some fuzz!
