I’m probably gonna have to buy a new Ghia combo 1X10 for small room band practice. I know I’ll replace the speaker with a greenback 10 but am not sure if I should get the 8 or 16 ohm speaker. Any help would be appreciated.

I've wondered this myself. One would think there would be some sort of a tonal difference between a 4-ohm tap / 4-ohm speaker and a 16-ohm tap / 16-ohm speaker as the latter employs more copper and thus should sound a bit different.

My new ghia came 16 ohm tapped?...16 is supposed to be a sweeter sounding speaker...

My Ghia came with a 16 ohm Z Speaker. I replaced it with an 8 ohm Greenback so I could run it with an 8 ohm extension cabinet.

If you ever decide to get rid of the speaker, 8 ohm ones go way faster than 16.

Thought ghia 110 was supposed to run 16 ohm?...if that's what it was designed...running it in 8 has different mojo?

My understanding has always been you don’t run a higher ohm amp into a lower ohm speaker - so don’t run a 16 ohm amp into an 8 ohm speaker. You can safely go the other way (amp into speaker with higher ohm).
That said, Doc uses very good transformers that may be fine either way - but I’d ask first.

I guess I've only had older Ghia's that had 4 and 8 ohm taps. I've never seen a 16. But, it does say you're getting a 'new' one so those could be different.
I remember others commenting that the tonal difference is so slight as to be negligible between 8/16.

I would get the 8 for this very reason. (Also as stated above, if you ever want to get rid of it...8 ohms sell much better.)

Thought ghia 110 was supposed to run 16 ohm?...if that's what it was designed...running it in 8 has different mojo? This is what I’m concerned about. It will a new Ghia, most likely from Humbucker Music, with the Z speaker option. If I’m not mistaken I think the new Ghia combos come with the 4,8,16 taps. In the past I’ve always replaced speakers with what ever the old speaker ohm was. So if the new Z speaker is 16 ohm I would buy a 16 ohm to replace it with. I certainly don’t wanna lose mojo by my ignorance on speaker ohms. So it doesn’t matter what ohm greenback I buy as long as I match it to the correct tap in the amp?

Might be just that the z speaker is 16 ohm so tapped 16...you have 8 ohm speaker/ tapp it 8 on amp?...just don't know if amps designed to run 16...or im making this more difficult than it has to be ...there is some reading to about 16 ohm vs 8 ohm set ups fwiw.

I think you might be overthinking it a little. The only reason the Ghia would come with a 16 ohm speaker is because that's the only way Doc's 10" speaker is available. Since the Ghia does indeed have all 3 taps as you point out, there's no reason to buy a 16 ohm GB to replace the Z speaker. You'd have to put it in your will to get rid of it. So unless you might have an alternate need for a 16 ohm 10" speaker, just get an 8 ohm GB and hook it up to the Ghia's 8 ohm tap.

"So it doesn’t matter what ohm greenback I buy as long as I match it to the correct tap in the amp?" Yep.
