Two thumbs down. Save your time and watch Private Ryan again. I bailed about a third of the way through and watched Band of Brother's.

Agreed. Not a good movie (but it could have been).

Lol, I actually liked it....more from the 'art' side of things. But then again, that sounds about right for me.
Then again, that was the last movie I watched before I disassembled my huge surround system. When I was done there were pictures squish on the walls and items danced off shelves onto the floor.

Gonna have to agree to disagree,I liked it(especially Dad on the boat)I like BOB and Saving Private Ryan, but also enjoyed Dunkirk's less literal approach.

I looked forward to seeing it. I saw that it had great reviews.
I was substantially disappointed.
How could this movie have great reviews?

It's funny because the movie was not the bombastic assualt on the senses that war movies typically are. At loud volume with a great subwoofer there were moments when the action was that way (as attested to the fact that my shelves were cleared). However, for me, I found it striking that the film was more about silence or calm and that silence was accentuated by the attack scenes. To paraprase a quote I once heard, the attack scenes/sounds weren't as much 'sounds' as they were brackets for the silence. I, too, liked the character of the Dad on the boat. I also liked the tension of the first scene of the soldier running for cover through the streets. The cinematography was great as well. Not a typical war movie but a 'thinking man's perspective' war movie which didn't surprise me from that director. Two thumbs up

Here's my favorite lesser known war films. It's a pretty powerful movie.
