I really do like what I’m getting from my Creamback 65 but since I have two identical Creamback cabs I’m really wanting to try the Celestion Blue with my Ghia. With any product I buy, I spend hours reading about it first.
Here is the hold back for me...I don’t think Ive ever read so many mixed reviews about the Blue with the Ghia. Some guys say it’s the best speaker / amp combination and others complain about how brittle it is. The blue cost a lot so I kind of wanna get it right the first time.
I’m primarily using a Tele with APC neck and voodoo 59 bridge pups.

If you are gonna get a blue for that price I would get a gold. You won't regret it!

Ditto on the Gold. I use a Crook guitar with the same pickups you mentioned above. I started with the cream back "M" speaker switched to a Blue, then took Mike (Jaguar guy)'s advice! The Gold takes awhile to break in if you are buying new! I have a nicely worn in Gold and I love it with my Ghia and Maz18.

Im using a Crook too, my second one should be arriving soon but that’s another thread. Maybe I should just spend more and get the Gold. Honestly, I’m just a little worried about the Blue being too thin. I read one guy describe it as kind of like a compressed old time radio. Maybe he was being drastic though.

I have Blues in a Z-Plus and a MAZ 8. Very happy with the sound. Both amps were bought new and the Blue takes time to get broken in. Certainly has a brittle quality during that period, and the bass seems light. After break in, it's much better balanced. No experience with a Gold on its own.
Fwiw, Doc picked the Blue for the MAZ 8 originally, and he says Joe Walsh opted for the Blue in the Z-Plus.

I did not like the Gold with my Ghia and preferred WGS take on Celestion speakers more than Celestions themselves. Speakers are an expensive curiosity. A well broken in BLUE might be better than a new one if you do go Blue. I didn’t fall in love with the Gold with any Z...Ghia, MONZA, or Therapy. Reading about them is never quite like hearing them.

It's personal taste, but most people like the ghia with a gold or blue.

+1 on the Gold. Never tried a Blue with a Ghia, but the Gold just... rocks.

It does come down to personal taste. I'm lucky to have a couple Dr. Z amps and speaker combinations. First let me say my favorite speaker is the Blue. I play clean and use pedals for all my dirt. I will set up some of my amps from time to time with a little grit or "hair" but mostly clean as I play Country Music. I have a Z-Plus with a Blue that is still not broken in fully yet. The Blue that I had broken in(Sounded SO good) just blew with my Stingray head. I used that as my main rig. My Stingray Combo had a Gold, but I swapped it out with the cream back "M", so I could use the Gold that is broken in with my MAZ and Ghia.
As for the Ghia, I really liked the Blue. I'm running a 5751 in V1, a Tung Sol in V2, JJ EL84's and a 5V4 rec. It makes the Ghia not break up as fast. Nashville trick I read on an old post from Doc on here. (Ghia More Clean Headroom) I think was the title. So that may change some peoples take on speaker choice.
Ghia with a cream back sounded good but a little less dynamic than a Blue, and darker. Well rounded speaker if you will. Blue sounded "fuller", more even. Slight more mid range to my ears than a Cream back. Warmer bass or bottom end. More chime on top end. Gold sounded best! Even tone, Bigger, tighter bass, more expressive. A little more punch and open sounding than a blue.
My favorite tone of all my amps was my Stingray with a Blue. I'm not in love with the Stingray with a 1x12 Gold by it self. ( I know if I was touring I'd have a Gold and Blue 2x12) But I don't want to lug that around.
If you are looking at a used Blue, and can get a deal, then I say get it. Try it for yourself! Then you will know. If you don't like it you should not have a problem selling it here!
Hope this helps!
Ron.

Ron. So Ron, that’s a very informative narrative for me and whoever else is on the fence about Blue or Gold. Of course everybody here has the very best advice imo. The Blue I had in mind is gone now so I think my new quest is to be on the lookout for a used Gold, or maybe even Blue but G12 preferably. I once told myself I’d never buy a used speaker from a stranger lol.

For what at it's worth, I have a 212 that I bought with two blues, and a 112 with a gold. I swapped a blue into the 112, and turned the 212 into a blue/gold cab. The 112 is much nicer for me with the blue - I don't think I was ever driving the gold hard enough at the volumes I play at to give it a workout.
Ideally, you would get a chance to demo them before you made a choice. Any Z guys near You?

Until I played a SUPER loud club 2 weekends ago. I had to push it and now I have a blown Blue. I really loved that single blue with my Rays. Liked it a lot with my Maz 18 as well, but it was magic with the Ray!

I've tried them all with the Ghia (Blue, Gold, and Cream Alnico). I thought the Blue was a little light in the bass. The Gold fixed that. The Cream Alnico was a bit compressed on the high end compared to the Blue or Gold.
Go for the Gold...
...or a Tone Tubby Alnico! Both are 50 watts, but the hemp cone tames the high end of the Ghia just right and, I thought it was even more expressive than the Gold. Both are great though...

I’m gonna order a new Gold, break it in and hope for the best. Thanks for the replies! What a great forum.

If you are gonna get a blue for that price I would get a gold. You won't regret it! Thanks Mike! I installed my new Gold today and was really happy with how it pairs with my Ghia. I know I need to break it in to get what it’s capable of so I’m gonna be cranking on this speaker like it owes me money. Without being broken in I’m hearing more 3D sounds and it’s a brighter speaker than my Creamback 65. This allows me to get that tone knob closer to 12:00. Lows are tighter, smoother and possibly deeper than the Creamback. Also, it gives clearer cleans but still on the edge of breakup, just enough to remind me it’s a Ghia. Now here is the nice surprise for me; I’m really loving the Gold in my Therapy!!! Who knew?

It's in my 1x12 Z cab, open back and I gotta agree, it sounds really good with my Therapy too, and every other amp I've tried it with (Ghia, Monza, Maz 8 and 18NR, Z-Lux). I love this speaker, and what's funny is that to me there's a big difference between the Blue and the Gold. The Gold is much bolder sounding, for lack of a better word. It's breaking in and getting ready for the Mazerati. Can't wait!

Howdy, No love for Weber's AlNiCo Silver bell? It brings needed bottom to the table and delivers beautiful clean tones. I adore the 30 watt version in my Z 1x12 cab, with my Ghia head.
